10 TEAMS THAT CAN WIN IT ALL: CANUCKS

Gawd stop you're balling. Not every goalie cracks under pressure. This is a unique set of circumstances that are completely different than Luongo's. Making such a statment is foolhardy, ignorant, and baseless. Try waiting until the event actually happens before crying about it. Has Schneider had a chance yet or shown any evidence whatsoever of cracking under the pressure?

Its kind of sad that Vancouverites think that its completely normal for a goalie to melt down in the playoffs year after year after year. That it is somehow unavoidable for our goaltending to take a nosedive in spring while every other team's goalie steps it up. That its ok for the opposition to score 7 goals on us every other game. Its like people have become resigned to it. This is what Luongo has reduced us to.

Schneider's post-season performance last season was the most dominant, consistant goaltending the Canucks have had for the past 5 years. Amidst all the highlight reel saves we didnt see a single 7-goal-game. No meltdowns. Not even a questionable goal against. And it wasnt a fluke. I sure as heck wasn't surprised to see him play like that. He has never given us a single reason to doubt him and yet people still cling to Luongo against all common sense and logic.

True, but we still lost. Goaltending was not the issue in the finals and was not the issue against the Kings. It just took Schneider putting up a 1.31 GAA for most people to realize that, when your goalie is averaging a little over 1 goal against a game and you still lose something is seriously wrong.

Our offense has scored 16 goals in the past 12 playoff games, that's pathetic

how is it ignorant? they are saying a goalie who is still basically unproven is the #1 reason a team is going to win the cup. that is an unrealistic expectation for a goalie who has never played more than 33 games in a year, he could be the next Raycroft for all we know. How about try waiting until he actually plays a full season before calling him god. that is equally ignorant

Goaltending was a big issue in the Final. Thomas was great every game and Luongo was great in 3 games, terrible in the rest. And the Final was not the only issue, lest we forget the 3 series against Chicago. This is not a flukey one time deal, it is a pattern.

Some could say that our playoff goaltending in recent years has been just as pathetic as our playoff offence.

This is what I see happening, Lu will still be here as a backup so they can see how Schneider will handle being the starter. If he handles it Lu will be traded no question, if he doesn't Lu will be the starter again and Schneider will go back to being the backup but will most likely be the one who ends up traded since he's already stated he doesn't want to be a backup anymore.

They've only had real trouble scoring in their last two series, playing against very high caliber goaltenders. If our goaltending was able to match our opposition's the last two series, we might have won one or even both of them, and then we might not be discussing how the Canucks cant score. We might be discussing our Stanley Cup win and our run of 2012 winning low scoring games.
