SOB for MVP

Recommended Posts

It looks like in the West the teams that will make the playoffs are pretty much set, unless Anaheim can pull off two straight wins while one of the two teams loses one.

In the East it's a much different story. 1 point separates 5th thru 9th place.

Tale of the Tape

82 games ago, the Boston Bruins began their journey. Destined to be a bottom feeder this season, we had stocked up on young talent and had expected success out of Providence. During the season the Bruins saw many highs, such as the eight game win streak at the beginning of the season. It was then clear that the emergency signings Boston had made in the offseason to fill out the roster while the re-build happened were more than they had hoped, and Boston began their journey to the playoffs. With key trades during the season the Bruins added some big offensive pieces to the puzzle such as David Perron, Ville Leino and Nicklas Bergfors while offloading the veteran, defensive players.

Tonight the Bruins end their journey that began 190 days ago in the TD Garden vs. the Penguins. The Bruins come into this game 7th in the East with a 43-32-6 record and 92 points. This is a must win game for the Bruins if they want to advance to the postseason.

Patrice Bergeron comes into this game having just potted his 40th of the season and will look to possibly add a 4 point night to get to 90 points and secure the Bruins a spot in the postseason. Afinogenov (25-39-64) and Langkow (23-35-58), two free agent signings this past summer that have formed a dynamic duo here in Boston come into tonight's match-up looking to make a big difference. They have combined for 48 goals and 122 points this season on the second line. The first pairing of Chara (6-26-32) and Johnson (4-19-23) look to provide some offense from the backend and the second pairing of Seidenberg (+14) and Lydman (+18) look to play solid defense in this match-up. Our bottom six looks to continue to provide a boost for the Bruins, namely Cleary (18-23-41), Leino (13-13-26 in 41 games), and Tardif (11-13-24). Rask will need to come through for us, coming into tonight's game sporting an average 2.46 GAA and .917SV%. He will be a key factor in whether or not the Bruins will make the playoffs.

Tonight's puck drops on Day 191 at 7:00PM EST. This game is a must win for both the Bruins and the Maple Leafs if they want to make the playoffs. Go Bruins Go!
