Travis wouldn't be able to fit it in his schedule and neither would many of the GMs. I think the schedule is fine as it is ...

We need to somehow find a way to spice up the FA market. It seems like every GM are just going to overpay their star players, so they can keep them. If this happens every year, no big names will ever hit FA.

So, real NHL teams let their prime aged stars walk if they have the cap space? I don't know how we're going to go up to teams and be like 'whoa, whoa, you're not allowed to sign Perry even though you can afford it'

Ummm, yeah.

Parise, Suter, Hossa (twice), The Sedins (they went into FA), Kovalchuck, Gaborik, Gomez, Drury, Briere.....I can keep on going.

You know what they all have in common? They all walked on their teams when the same money was on the table. Except Gomez, who was never getting that from Jersey. Briere and Drury told Buffalo they didn't want to stay. All the others could have chosen to stay with their teams. Teams don't ever choose to let their FAs walk if they have the money, and if it was your big FA going to market because we forced you to, I'm sure you'd be less than thrilled. All we can do is wait for paying Malkin 12.5m to make a younger stud available in 3-4 years, but we can't force anyone to let FAs walk

Those teams let those players walk like most of my girlfriends were dumped by me. By which I mean every single one would have kept them if the players hadn't been adamant about testing free agent waters.

Detroit let Hossa walked, not the other way around, same with Gaborik in Minny. I never heard the story of Drury and Briere saying they didn't want to stay in Buffalo, considering Buffalo went to the Eastern Finals that year and the previous year. Buffalo's mangement, knew that the possibility of signing both players was a going to be tough. They thought they would at least be able to sign one of them, but both of them went into FA and Buffalo got nothing in return.

My point is, it's tough trying to improve your team, if the only way of doing so is by trading.

The cap hit is calculable as such

Plyrs 25 & Under - 1/3 of their remaining deal over twice the years. If you bought out a 24 year old making 1.5m with 2 years left, you'd have a hit of 250K over 4 years (the total value being 1/3 of the remaining 3m, divided by twice the remaining years, 1m/4)

If they're over 25, the only change is that it's 2/3rd of the deal over twice the years. Same scenario, he'd just get 500K for 4 years in dead cap.

We obviously shouldn't let our stars go that would just be not wise. But be a gm mode is missing that element of real life, of players wanting to test free agency. It would "spice things up" but It would also be unfair for the gm's who lose a star for no reason.

I think it's been resolved enough that we can not use words like stupid. It was an idea, it doesn't look like we're on board, let's just move on from it. Shouldn't be discouraging any ideas

You can have a max of 6 signed on your roster, however, you can hold 45 skaters. If you max out your 45 skaters + 5 goalies then you don't have room for a 6th. You can't go over 45 skaters though, so basically the 50th position on your roster is a flexible goalie/skater contract.

Said it was a dumb idea, not stupid. Stupid has more of a negative connotation. And what can I say it was. Would have caused riots here if we were forced to let go of our stars even if we had cap so I had to be brutally honest.
