Vancouver Canucks @VanCanucks
Burrows meeting with the media. Why'd he sign? "I love the city. Love the province. Love this organization"

Dan Murphy @sportsnetmurph
Burrows signs 4-year extension with #canucks

Dan Murphy @sportsnetmurph
Burrows deal is for 18-milion over 4-years.

Dan Murphy @sportsnetmurph
#canucks Burrows deal includes a no-trade clause.

Dan Murphy @sportsnetmurph
#Burrows no-trade clause is for the duration of the deal. Not a limited no-trade clause.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks President & General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the Canucks have re-signed left wing Alex Burrows.
Burrows, 31, collected 52 points (28-24-52) and 90 penalty minutes in 80 games played in 2011.12. He also set a career high for most game-winning goals in a season with seven, ranking 11th in the League in this category. Following the conclusion of the season, Burrows represented Team Canada at the World Championships.
Burrows has played in seven seasons over his NHL career, all with the Canucks. He has recorded 270 points (139-131-270) in 522 games. The 6’1”, 195-pound left winger ranks second in franchise history for most shorthanded goals (16) and 10th for most game-winning goals (22). Burrows has been the recipient of multiple club awards, including the Vancouver Canucks Most Exciting Player (2008, 2009, 2010) and the Fred J. Hume Award as the Canucks Unsung Hero (2008).
The Pincourt, Quebec native has also appeared in 58 career playoff games, recording 28 points (16-12-28) and 90 penalty minutes in four post-season appearances. Burrows holds the club record for most career overtime playoff goals (3) and is tied for most series-winning goals (2). Burrows originally signed as a free agent with Vancouver on November 8, 2005.

**Gilman on Team 1040 following Burrows signing:

Negotiations started "couple of months ago"
Gilman wasn't sure if a deal could get done.
Mgmt used the backdrop of the current CBA system to sign Burr. Didn't know what it would look like in the future.
Don't know if Doan will sign with us or not.
Doan's heart's with that franchise.
Mgmt doesn't see a reason why they wouldnt be able to sign Edler.
Mgmt has "a few balls in the air we're juggling".
Full NTC - did not grant a NMC.
It was important for mgmt to place Alex within the salary structure.
Why make an exception with Shane Doan knowing how old he will be towards the end of the proposed contract?

"Unique commodity"
Unique blend, size, skill, character.
We know what he will bring to our dressing room
"This is our team, this is our time. We gotta go for it"
We're not concerned one iota about bringing in Doan.

So 4.5 per. What everyone was expecting, but not really a discount.

It will be once the 20% roll back kicks in ...... I dont think the owners will take that out of the deal so at some point the players will have to bite the bullet and take what they can get.

He could have easily gotten Kesler money on the open market. That's a discount especially in Term as well.

The key difference is that Sopel can fill in for Seabrook and Campbell just fine. Bieksa, he is garbage so in that sense he is like the worst defenseman in the league.

When Cody (Hodgson) gets older, he might be better than Datsyuk.

Let's not push this guy (Kassian). He's still immature, and if he fails on the 2nd line it's because he isn't ready. Some guys really need years to develop, it's how well and how fast players adapt to the game. In my opinion, I'd rather have Horvat getting 2nd line minutes. He will start off on the 3rd line next season but I see him making the transition, being a great compliment to whoever plays his wings.

At this point, I don't see Kassian fitting in to any role other than a 3rd. If players like Kassian start getting 2nd line minutes then we just stay inconsistent as a team.

The idiocy on CDC....

Not bad. Hoping for 4yr x 4M but hey, what's 0.5M doesn't have much of an influence against the cap.

Secretly hoping for a little less.

But he deserves all of it. He has worked his tail off for this.

Way to go Burrows :)

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

Great news for a great guy. Finally being paid for what he's worth, although, from what all of us know of him, he's more than happy to be here, no matter what the price is. Market value, and after a four year discount, glad he's one of the group.
