Glad this pile of crap is done with... its a Shane he didnt just sign there ages ago instead of wasting everyone's time... now we can all move forward and Doan't have to waste our time guessing anymore :)

"I'm extremely excited about remaining a Coyote," Doan said in a statement. "I was drafted by this organization and it means a great deal to me to be able to play with the same franchise my entire career. I'm very excited about our team, our coaching staff and our management and am confident about our future in Arizona.

"I chose to stay with the Coyotes because I am committed to winning here, not anywhere else, and I love living and playing in the Valley. This is my home and this is my team."

After reading this, I'm glad he didn't sign here. His heart has clearly beein in Phoenix this entire time, and signining here sounds like it would have been an unwanted consolation prize. If he had signed here it makes you wonder if his heart would have been really into it or if it would have been just for the money. (think the Messier situation, just less douchier).

Doan wasted everyone's time. He should have just said he was staying in Phoenix and all the other teams can F themselves.

So, Doan sign with Phoenix for the next 4 years... Did the team finally secure to stay put in Glendale?

Nope! He's betting that a deal will get done and the yotes are staying in phoenix.

Can always retire; or pull a Tim Thomas (or Lou ) and force a trade when and where he likes?

Nope! He's betting that a deal will get done and the yotes are staying in phoenix.

Doan is their Trevor Linden.

Could you really see Linden finishing his career anywhere other than Vancouver?

I wish him good luck with the rest of his career, whatever city it might be in. Time for the Canucks to move on and get that top 6 forward via trade.

I can't believe I'am saying this but I kind of respect the fact that he choose to accept a measly $5 million dollars per year to live in a beautiful valley desert as compared to a coastal paradise because his [fill in the blank] meant more to him than the extra $8 mil and a shot at hockey's holy grail ... wait ... confu ... :frantic:

"What players need is the right kind of strength and power. That includes learning to understand that leverage and positioning can be just as important as raw strength when it comes to winning battles in the game. It's more about timing and athleticism --and avoiding injury--than it is about how much you can bench press. I don't know how many times I've seen a guy with the physique of a defensive end line up a guy half his size, only to bounce off when he connects. Sure, there is room in the game for big guys who can throw their weight around. But for the most part, players are smart enough to see them coming--and strong enough to protect the puck when they arrive. There are trainers out there who know how to devlop hockey-specific strength--though a trainer can help only if a player follows the program. All too often, I've seen players sign up with the best trainer, but not show up for their workouts and never to reap the benefits."

If he was going to sign with Yotes all this time, why cause this much drama

Doan didn't cause any drama. Forum posters on this board created their own drama (aided by the media a bit)

$4.5m per year for an aging, declining Burrows is not a steal, sorry

your brain is aparently aging and declining because Burrows sure isnt, and as far as his contract goes he is worth way more!

In-deedy do! .. now we just need to trade Lui for someone with Doan's "positive" attributes .. David Clarkson appeals to me .. blockbuster with Zajak and Clarkson for our usual under-achievers .. .. +1

yeah travis was under some heat early in the playoffs last year but really turned it around with some key goals. ive always been a clarkson fan, unfortunately for us im sure nj realizes his value. he was great in the playoffs last year. hes a chris neal type player - becoming more valuable to their respective clubs.

i remember one instance in particular in the rangers series when bickel was trying to goad him into a fight possibly, cross checking him and a chat on a faceoff. then clarkson scored right in front of bickel on a beauty tip.

we definitely need a player like this.

Good for him.

Clearly his family needs mean more to him than winning at this state, he will retire as the best Coyote ever regardless.

I am not ticked he didn't sign. He can sign where he wants, but jerking us around is irritating. If you were never going to sign anywhere else, no matter what, he should have been honest about that.

Well he never had to be, but no way I can respect or like that crap. Hope were the team that knocks phoenix out of the playoffs.
