it's an article from last night before Burrows was signed, but:

In his last negotiation, which led up to the trade deadline in 2009, the Canucks held the hammer. They had an offer on the table from another team and were ready to trade Burrows if he didn’t sign the four-year extension.

I wonder if we would have 'slayed the dragon' if he was traded. I mean, we probably would (hopefully) but wonder who it would've been. Can't ever imagine #14 in a different jersey.

Glad that didn't go down! I think he appreciates the fact that the Canucks gave him this shot. No Canucks = No Burrows, I think he'll retire a Canuck!

Yeah. I can confirm this. Steve Y told me that there was a possibility I was going up north at around that time.

It was probably a pretty good offer if we even considered trading Burr, too bad we will never know what it was.
Regardless, I'm glad he's still a Canuck, and will be for a long time to come.

Burrows for Hedman?

Hedman was drafted in 2009. He was still in Sweden in February.

I think it was Burrows, Bieksa and '09 first for Tampa's '09 first (Hedman). The Brad Richards proposal in '08 kinda went something like Kesler, Edler and Schneider for Richards+. Where would our team be now if we made those trades?

Those are correct , it was the situation where Burke was accused of tampering because he publically said Bieksa had been offered to Tampa

I always thought Burke heard that at the draft, so it probably wasn't that deal that Botchford is referring to.

In any event I think, if it did happen, it should be water under the bridge now. 4.5 seems really fair and it solidifies the fact that Burrows is 4th on the pecking order behind the twins and Kesler. They are also going to be paying him that money until he's 36 or 37.

E: It's not Richards guys, he was in Dallas that season.

"Canucks, Burrows a long way apart in contract talks"

haha, nice story, but 24 hours later Burrows already inked.
stay tuned for more "news" from the Province

and while we are on it - don't buy the way the 2009 context is framed either - weak link source.

The Tampa rumour was Burrows and Bieksa for tampas 1st which was Hedman. Burke let it out MG denied it.

This is different. Burr had recently started playing with Sedins. He was scoring a lot going into UFA. Before the trade deadline MG told Burr if he didnt take $2 mill per year he would be traded. Burr signed 4 years and became the best contract in the league afterwards.

Should be noted at the time it was close to fair value. Burr was not the player he is now. He just started playing with Sedins and broke out.

Steve Yzerman became the GM of Tampa in 2010. I'm really beginning to doubt that you're actually Steven Stamkos...

Just remember about the context. IIRC, during Feb 09, the Canucks were losing games left and right, like a 10 game losing (or without win) streak.
The line up was:
Daniel - Henrik - Bernier
Demitra - Sundin - Wellwood
Burrows - Kesler - Hansen
Rypien - Johnson - Hordichuk
Pyatt

The RPM line haven't arrived and the Sedins+Burrows combo haven't come about yet either.
There were rumours earlier that AV might have had an issue with Burrows for coming to camp out of shape (or was that the year before?). If you look at the lineup, the only one who was expendable with any value was Burrows. You're not gonna trade the Sedins or Kesler, Raymond and Hansen were the youngbloods, Sundin and Demitra signed as UFA (never a good idea to trade them).... so Burrows was seen as the best move for a possible shakeup.

Turned out that Burrows was the catalyst for turning the season around.

It was the month with the Burrows goal that saved AV's bacon for the first time:

http://www.nhl.com/i...s.htm?id=407691

With one breakaway and one wrist shot past Cam Ward, Alex Burrows allowed everyone within the Vancouver city limits to breathe a sigh of relief.

Burrows' shorthanded goal with just 1:22 remaining in regulation broke a 3-3 tie, as the Canucks pulled out a much-needed 4-3 win against the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night. The victory ended an eight-game losing streak for Alain Vigneault's club.

"The streak was on everyone's mind," a relieved Vigneault said. "It had taken on a life of its own."

Indeed it did. It sure didn't help when the Canucks blew a 2-0 lead, but at least they finally found a way to earn two points in the standings. It was their first win since a 4-2 victory over Edmonton on Jan. 7, and their first at G.M. Place since beating Ottawa 3-0 on Dec. 28.

Obviously, they're feeling awfully fortunate that they remain in playoff position. Vancouver currently resides in seventh place in the Western Conference.

"We needed that one big-time," captain Roberto Luongo said. "I think the guys are relieved we got it out of the way. Now we can focus on winning some games."

The real question is: was the trade in place before or after he scored that goal?

People who label others as bandwagoners, people who tell other people "how" to cheer for their team, "how" they should act or what they should wear to "support" their team, people who only want to hear positive thoughts and don't want to read about how the team can do better - these are people who are insecure and uncomfortable within their own skin.

I'll support my team the way I choose, thank you very much. You can choose to support your team the way you want to, and I won't judge you on it as long as you don't try to force your beliefs on me. I'll also be quick to point out where I think the team can do better, because identifying that there is a problem is the first step to fixing it; denying or ignoring a problem won't solve anything.

Go Canucks Go.
