Slegr
Ten years from now, we will wonder how we went through the regular season so complacently, playing teams like Colorado and the Wild so many times. Ten years from now, we will have one of the most fierce and hated rivalries in all of sports. I'm talking about the Vancouver / Seattle rivalry. Toronto has Montreal. The Flames have the Oilers. The Rangers have the Islanders. When Seattle becomes the chosen relocation destination for Phoenix shortly, it will create something that Vancouver has sorely lacked in its 40+ years - a true, regional, blood-thirsty rivalry. It will make the regular season twice as exciting, and the playoffs will literally become do-or-die. Make no mistake, the Canucks have played their share of rivals. The Hawks, Bruins, Flames... but those aren't everlasting rivalries. They're time-limited, and built on playoff circumstance. Seattle / Vancouver will become something so big, so exciting, it will create hockey excitement in all west coast walks of life. Ten years from now, we will wonder why in the world this enlightening new reality ever took so long. http://www.cbc.ca/sports/basketball/nba/story/2012/09/11/sp-nba-arena-seattle-nhl.html
Jägermeister
I wouldn't consider a Seattle team a rival, they would easily become my 2nd favourite team. I would love to drive down there, catch a game, spend the night, and drive home the next day. It would probably still be cheaper than going to a Canucks game too. Gollumpus
Just because they would operate within a few hundred miles of Vancouver wouldn't make them a rival. Attempts to hype the games as such would be nothing more than a marketing ploy. Seattle wouldn't become a serious rival until after a few seasons of head-to-head playoff battles, and in some of those battles, Seattle would have to win. regards, G. Peaches
Absolutely, but what happens when Kes, Eddie, the twins, Burr, Juice, Toews, Kane, Keith, Seabrook, Bolland and co. are retired? Rivalries like MTL/BOS, CGY/EDM and OTT/TOR will be kicking due to the teams' proximity to each other. VAN/CHI likely won't. We need a geographic rival so us and our grandkids can have common enemies.

SamJamIam
The thing is, rivalries require both sides to acknowledge the other team as potentially better. I can`t see Seattle giving us a good fight for quite some time. Also PHX is being bought by Jamison and although a vote in Glendale is the linchpin, it's pretty much good to go. Seattle will need to have some other struggling team move to fill its stadium. Columbus maybe?
kmotamed
I'm actually pretty excited at the prospects of Seattle getting an NHL team in the not too distant future. Maybe that will help remove some bandwagon-er fans from us!
Moonshinefe
I'd love to see a new NHL team close by to us. It'd mean less travelling (assuming it's in our division, I'm sure it would be...) for our players and we could possibly head down to the states to see a game for cheaper. It'd be fun to have a new rivalry too.

Master Mind
Just because a team is close by, doesn't make them instant rivals. Forced rivalries suck, the good ones develop after a few playoff series vs each other.
Slegr
Trust me, when the Seattle Metropolitans narrowly slip past the Canucks in Game 7, round one of the 2016 playoffs, and do so by giving Cory Franklin Schneider a concussion, the rivalry won't be forced. It will be the ugliest, most exciting feud in hockey. http://www.google.ca/imgres?um=1&hl=en&sa=N&biw=1440&bih=805&tbm=isch&tbnid=pKkuFBaqGCiFPM:&imgrefurl=http://www.puckdrawn.com/puckdrawn/2012/01/winner-revealed-nhl-relocation-design-competition-seattle.html&docid=PG6BD6YPwnjYFM&imgurl=http://www.puckdrawn.com/.a/6a01157061294d970b016760c586fb970b-800wi&w=640&h=589&ei=HaJWUN_WFYGbiAKXw4Bg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=174&vpy=196&dur=134&hovh=215&hovw=234&tx=113&ty=97&sig=115127513544619101751&page=1&tbnh=134&tbnw=146&start=0&ndsp=28&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0,i:
Bossy
Oh it would take a while, but maybe they beat us in the first round, we beat them a few times, all those games. It would take some time, but sooner or later a playoff series vs them would result in the peace arch being a war zone.
