Captain Aerosex
When he retires, Marty St. Louis should look into becoming commissioner one day. He seems like the perfect guy for a place in the NHL's upper echelon.

goalie13
In lieu of the coming lockout, it has become clear that Gary Bettman has become the most incompetent commissioner of any professional sporting league. In the overall picture, he has been a failure on many levels. In 1993, he had been hired with the following mandate: selling the game in the U.S. market, end labor unrest, complete expansion plans, and modernize the views of the "old-guard" within the ownership ranks. Well, he has gone and done so, but the results were a complete bust.

Lil B From The Pack
I think the man "who refused to bleed" Aki Berg makes a better commissioner than any of the people mentioned.

Jai604
This thread made me want to puke. The mere thought of Cherry as the commissioner made me sick.

VanNuck
Okay, if you don't like either choice, well then argue constructively, just none of this sarcastic, non-constructive comparing Gretzky to Keenan, etc. Some of you have made good cases, like Ken Dryden or Bobby Orr for Commissioner. Others have talked about why Gretzky or Cherry would not be the right fit, and gave reasonable reasons why. I may not agree with them, but we need constructive talk and none of this stupidity, like Auger or Keenan for Commissioner - you guys are not serious about those. Get focused guys, and find working ideas. Rome is burning for goodness sake, so we gotta remove the cinder in Gary Bettman.
Bill Sikes
Dryden was the guy I thought of first, but Nicholson is a good call as well. Although I'm one of the few around here who likes Grapes, I don't see him as Commish material.

VanNuck
Grapes may be tough enough to keep Snider in line, but he isn't the right personality, even more polarizing that Bettman, Gretzky IMO just does not have the education. Nicholson is experienced at running a large scale hockey operation (Hockey Canada) and keeping various factions on the same page. Dryden is a lawyer, has the business knowledge, and can see both sides of the argument, and unlike Bettman, has the respect of all (players, owners, and fans).
