Alex Ovechkin is reportedly joining the growing number of players who are heading overseas and back home to play during the NHL lockout.

According to the Russian newspaper Sport-Express, the Washington Capitals captain will play with Dynamo Moscow of the Kontinental Hockey League.

Ovechkin, who turned 27 on Monday, also played for Dynamo from 2001-05. He was rumoured to also be in talks last week to play for CSKA Moscow during the lockout.

The Russian star was born in Moscow. He had 38 goals and 27 assists in 78 games for the Capitals last season.

Ovechkin joins fellow NHL stars Evgeni Malkin, Pavel Datsyuk, Sergei Gonchar, Ilya Kovalchuk, and rookie Nail Yakupov in the KHL.

I bet we would've got to witness one but the KHL has import restrictions :(

Using the same move over and over and not playing defense is not exciting. It's only my preference, you don't need to get personal with it.

If 679 points in 553 games isn't exciting then I don't know what is. That's more than a point per game on average.

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

I'm saying Aladeen a lot because http://forum.canucks...dpost__10922428

I bet when Schneider turns 38, he will have broken all of Luongo's records.

Wow, that has to be one of the dumbest comments I have seen.

Ovechkin is a superstar, without him the Capitals might have been like the Coyotes or Stars.

Wherever Ovechkin goes to play a lot of people go to those games just to see him, he is a great player and will excel with Adam Oates as coach.

Ovechkin looking pretty good in blue and green. He would look great in a Canucks uniform.

I'm happy for the guy. Hard to tell from one clip but he looks good. Probably back on the juice too which will really help his game.

Pavel will have his work cut out for him given his two wingers are often weak defensively.
