He's shaved his head and looks to be in A LOT better shape then last season.

Almost looks like the Ovi from his rookie season.

Maybe he will get back his elite quickness and agility that used to make him so dangerous.

What do you guys think?

I hope so. Also I think he will be back to his old, dominating self since Adam Oates uses an offensive system.

The two pictures are misleading. He's hunched forward in the second picture. When you're standing up, you are less likely to look "fat" than if you were to sit down hunched like that.

Yea, he's back for sure. Guy is one of the best playoff performers/point producers and in the past 2 years, you could and can see it in him that he wants to win the Cup. Unfortunately, there is a lockout, but this Summer, he changed his off-season workout/training schedule and he says its helped him a lot more - more work, less slacking off.

....Mark my word, whenever the NHL resumes and if Ovie comes back, you'll see that highlight machine (Though he still is one) from 3-4 years ago.

On topic though, I actually caught the game and can say Ovechkin looked noticely quicker and more explosive, which would make sense if he has lost some mass which it looks like he has. He mentioned in an interview a few weeks back he was focusing on conditioning, range of motion, flexibility etc. this summer rather than lifting.

Here are some clips from the last game.

True, but Ovie isn't just a bit leaner in the new pic, he's in waaay better shape. He looks like he could have an 8-pack in the newer one.

Since he signed a contract in Russia, he can't play in the NHL this season if the strike were to end, right?

Wasn't he really heavy in his rookie season too?

The thing is, it's easier to carry around all that fat when you are 20. Not so much when you are 27.

EDIT: According to his hockey team's website, he weighs 220 pounds. It also says he's only 6'2 though. Either way, he looks like he's in great shape.

Buddy I called this EXACT situtation on here two years ago and was flamed, so I guess I have a bit of hockey knowledge, not to mention the 4 years I played in the OHL idiot.

“I think the progression in his weights, he came in 218, 224, 232, 237, 242,” McPhee said, which doesn’t exactly reflect the team’s prior reports. “He played at 242 once, and he got suspended for hitting a few people. And he was crushing guys, and he loved crushing guys, and we said you know what, Bruce always thought he was a better player at about 227.

That from GMGM. He came into the league around 212.

Really? If Backstrom can get to the level he was at a couple years ago and they can find Ovi a proper winger (Semin was a joke), I think Ovechkin could get there no problem.

Players are there till somethings resolved.

But Ovechkin has says theres no gurantee he'll be back if they screw the players over.

They all have out clauses if the NHL starts back up.
The real question is if the NHL starts back up and players stay with their current teams will that void their iihf privilege?

his face has thinned, which is the most telling sign of true weight loss. the second picture makes him look worse than he was, but he has clearly leaned up since it was taken.

I can't wait to see one of my favorite guys rippin it up again against my favorite guy, Stamkos.

Prediction: Ovechkin: 52 goals, 41 assists, 93 points.
Stamkos: 56 goals, 45 assists, 101 points.

If it wasn't for the lockout that's wouldst we would probably see.

Hopefully. He was one of the most exciting talents to watch in the NHL. Hopefully we can bring up the debate of Crosby vs. Ovechkin again too. It was fun to watch two of the best young players in the world go at it, playing at their best.

OH gosh, he will light it up no problem in the KHL. KHL's top player the past 3 seasons, was none other then Alex Radulov. Who in the NHL just a top 6 winner, but a star in the KHL. Ovechkin even struggling version of Ovechkin will have no issues in the KHL.

It'd be nice to see this guy get back into his old form, he has been pretty lack luster of late, compared to his seasons before.
