IIHF says Yakupov does not have approved transfer card to play in KHL. Russian Hockey fined. Appeal can be heard.

Russian Feds have 7 days to respond to Hockey Canada's appeal process.

Tough spot for the Oilers who want Yakupov to play during NHL lockout.

NHL says it doesn't have a stake in the Yakupov controversy, however, NHLPA says its looking into it.

Oilers want what is best for Yakupov. If he can't play in KHL, they want him playing in Sarnia. Bottom line, they want him playing.

So the IIHF suspended him playing in the KHL? I seem to recall the same thing happening to Radulov when he abandoned Nashville. In the end it didn't make any difference.

However, Nail preferring the KHL over Sarnia, where he was under contract to play this season, is the main indicator of why the Oilers might have wanted to draft Murray instead.

Frack, Yakkity-Yak might never come back...

It's not really a suspension, he just hasn't been approved to play there since Sarnia holds his rights. It's a good possibility it gets approved since the Oilers don't object and there's a lockout (after all, it's what we did with Jensen) but it's just a question of getting the transfer card signed off before he can play another game.

They don't want any risk of injury where insurance would become a problem since he isn't approved yet to play outside of the OHL.
