1st preseason game tonight. Cannata expected to start 1st half, Corbeil the 2nd. Expected line up:

Rai - Armstrong - Matson
Bicek - Mallet - Tochkin
Gingera - Crichton - Kell
Turnkiewicz - Turnbull - Emmerson

Andersson - McCready
Polasek -Blain
LoVerde - Maggio

Cannata
Corbeil

Lol, first game of preseason but what a brutal line up. Here's to hoping Cannata is stellar.

looks like all the fringe AHLers are getting a chance to prove themselves. Good news for the players not playing is that if your not in that lineup you are likely a favourite to make the team.

there are 29 players not playing tonight, around 1/3 of the not playing players will also be cut (more for every player playing tonight that makes it)

Wolves lose in shootout 2-1. Andersson with an assist, Tochkin with a shootout goal, Mallet with a fight and Cannata stopped 10 out of 11.

Next game should have a better line up. Cuts to come.

For some reason the Wolves website isn't working for me. Who scored in regulation for the Wolves?

Very glad to see Friesen in that 3rd line Center position, was worried he might not get an opportunity what with all the depth. Also glad to hear that Mallet was the most noticeable player, although I wish Shaver would have responded to me when I tweeted him asking just that (who was the most noticeable) right after the game.

He is an employee of the Wolves.... so if you tweet him RIGHT after the game... it's safe to assume that he was working....

Thanks for the update. Andersson getting another look. This looks very close to what I thought their roster would be. Really small down the middle though, 5'9, 5'9, 5'10.

Ebbett and Schroeder are going to be there regardless (when the regular season starts).

Friesen does play bigger then his size.

Regardless - it shouldn't be an expectation that they will answer every tweet.

It's likely that he got caught up with something after the game, and didn't have time to respond to your question.

I've never fully understood the AHL's veteran rule. From what I understand each AHL team is allowed to have 6 veterans. 5 out of those six must have between 260 to 320 professional games with 1 out of the 6 having greater than 320 professional games.

With that said, who do you think the Wolves' veterans will be?

My list: Haydar, Ebbett, Joslin, Sterling, Desbiens, Gordon
This leaves out: Matheson

Huh, not as hard as I thought. Any corrections?

Is Pinnizzotto a vet too?

no, he only has 210 games under his belt as of season start... i don't think ECHL counts as "professional" games... i'm not 100% on that though.

edit: yeah ECHL doesn't count:

What is the Veteran Rule?
Each AHL Club must dress for each regularly scheduled or play-off game, at least eleven (11) Players, other than goaltenders, who have played in a total of not more than two hundred and sixty (260) regular season games in the National Hockey League, American Hockey League, International Hockey League, or any European Elite League, prior to the start of the season, and one (1) player, other than goaltenders, who has played in a total of not more than three hundred and twenty (320) regular season games in the National Hockey League, American Hockey League, International Hockey League, or any European Elite League, prior to the start of the season. Any Player who participates in European Elite League games during a hockey season in which the Player would be eligible to play in the Canadian Hockey League (excluding an overage year) shall not have such games count in the calculation of the two hundred and sixty (260) regular season games. Players on loan from the National Hockey League for a first fourteen (14) day conditioning period shall not be affected by the aforesaid experience requirement.
In the event a Club dresses fewer than seventeen (17) skaters, the number eleven (11) shall be reduced accordingly. In the event the Member Clubs elect to dress eighteen (18) skaters, the development rule minimum number of eleven (11) shall be increased to twelve (12).

Any thoughts on the AHL increasing the allowable number of vetrans due to the lockout? I'm sure some teams will vets (like Ebbett) who would otherwise be in the NHL on their AHL team due to the lockout.

Ok well in the same veteran rule it also states 12 out of 18 skaters must be "development players", goaltenders do not count against the veteran rule.

So "development" players, which I think at this point are locks for the team:

Forwards:
Sweatt, Schroeder,Rodin, Kassian, Mallet, T. Miller, Friesen

Defense:
Connauton, Tanev, Sauve, Mullen, Polasek,

Given the level of competition I'm not sure Mallet, Miller, Friesen Mullen or Polasek can be considered locks just yet despite the vetran/development player rule.

I think that is a fair assumption.

IMO - the current leaders to nail down spots are Tochkin (from what I have read, has been excelling) and Andersson.

Ebbett and Hadar both satisfy the single highest games veteren allowed rule (over 320), so only one can dress on any given night.

Assuming that Pinizzotto is now listed as a veteran, I would have to think he replaces Desbiens.

Roster (combined veterans/developments with no extras):

Haydar - Ebbett - Kassian
Miller - Schroeder -Sterling
Rodin - Friesen - Pinizzotto
Gordon - Mallet - Sweatt

Connauton - Tanev
Joslin - Mullen
Sauve - Polasek
