Where's Wellwood
i'm thinking thats along the lines of what we will get though. Luongo being 34 at the start of next year and Edler only having one year of his contract left
JensenFan2011
Edler's contract situation is a fair point but goalies can play til they're way older than 34.
Pears
Even though we gain a few picks, Franson and Nino, we don't improve as much as we should in our current line up if we do move Luongo and Edler. But 3 firsts in 2013 would be incredible.
CanucksFanMike
Money. They have enough money to throw at him, he would resign there... plus they will be a good team in a few years there is no reason why players wouldn't want to go there
JimLahey
This. I don't think there's a spot on this team for Franson right now, unless Ballard gets traded. So maybe we could push for Ashton and a 1st instead?
Pears
Both deals could work if done correctly. If we could get JM Liles or Gunnarson in the deal, then Edler could be expendable with his current contract. Or if the season is a full lockout de Haan and a first for Edler and Raymond, or something slong those lines. Personally, I would move Luongo and Edler if we had 3 firsts, a top 4 dman and a top prospect in return. (ie. Liles and de Haan)
JimLahey
That's what I'm thinking too.
Pears
This looks fine: Hamhuis/Bieksa Garrison/Liles Ballard/Tanev And NYI's first could get us Ristolainen or Monahan. TOR's could get Rychel/Morrissey if they drop. Morrissey/Ristolainen, Connauton, Sauve, Tanev, Corrado, McNally, McEneny possibly.
komodo1970
People still aren't understanding that Lou's contract combined with the control he has concerning destination is really crippling MG's ability to make a fair deal. Lou is 33 yrs old and will be paid 6.7 mil. until he's 39 yrs old. That's a pretty sizable commitment for any team to make; especially if the cap goes down. Everyone knows he wants to go back to Florida and is doing his best to steer MG in that direction. Combine this with the above issue and it spells a, " get what you can," scenario for MG. To Vancouver: 2013 1st & 2nd rnd pick To Florida: Roberto Luongo Of course this is all pending a new CBA, but if MG can get decent futures for Lou, I would consider it a victory for us. It also saves us a pile of cap space.
SkeeterHansen
NYI need a defensmen and one of Edlers Caliber is hard to obtain. Keep in mind the NYI have had troubles with Nino two years in a row. a -29 rating in 55 games is a sign of needing a fresh start somewheres else. ConnorFutureGM
Franson would be in the Luongo trade if he ended up going to the Leafs but they won't throw in a 1st as well. Burke already learned what counting your chickens before they hatch means. Islanders aren't going to trade their 1st unless it's for a youngerish player with term that should get them into the playoffs. Say the same package from the Islanders for Subban. CHodgson9
I'd rather do: To Tor: Luongo To Van: Colborne, 1st (2013) To NYI: Edler, Higgins, Lack, Booth To Van: Tavares
kesler'sselke
there is no way Tavares will be traded....
kesler'sselke
what is most likely to happen is Luongo goes to Florida Let's just hope that a trade like this would happen To Florida: Luongo, Raymond, Sauve To Vancouver Bjugstad, 2013 1st To NYI Ballard To Van 2013 2nd, 2014 2nd

Zoolander
Nino could very well be, just another Gilbert Brule. We could get WAY more IMO for Edler.
qwijibo
If the entire season is lost but still counts against the players contract then both Edler and Raymond will be UFA's and as such the return will be a fraction of what has been suggested on this thread. For Edler's rights I'm thinking a 2nd round pick and a middling prospect. Raymond's rights won't fetch anything
gwarrior
you want to talk about "iffy prospects", niederreiter proved last season hes about as iffy as a top prospect can be seeing as how he had 1 goal and no assists for a grand total of 1 point in 55 games with the islanders, so im not exactly convinced it is worth dealing edler for him. Canuck Surfer
If the full year is locked out; Edler and Raymond are both UFA. We have no trade option! We get bupkus for both potentially. Both deals could work if done correctly. If we could get JM Liles or Gunnarson in the deal, then Edler could be expendable with his current contract. Or if the season is a full lockout de Haan and a first for Edler and Raymond, or something slong those lines. Dogbyte
Higgins is too good to play on the 4th line....sure, he could do it, but he deserves to be in the top six. the only reason why he isn't there is because we have a bunch of studs and a soon to be stud (kassian) packed into the top six.
