Indian music

Ravi Shankar/Anoushka Shankar - Sitar: Ravi is the forefather of Indian music's foray into western culture. I saw him over 7 years ago with his daughter Anoushka at the Orpheum. Ravi was 82 years old at the time. He was still a virtuoso. Anoushka is a genius on the instrument as well.

Ustad Sultan Khan - Sarangi: The greatest living sarangi player. The sarangi is a traditional bowed Indian instrument. I saw Ustad perform with Zakir Hussain at the Masters of Percussion concert at the Chan Centre in UBC. Amazing.

Zakir Hussain - Tablas: He has played with Ravi, Ustad, and various others. He is the greatest tabla player in the world.

Vishwa Mohan Bhatt - Mohan Vina: V.M. Bhatt played with Ry Cooder, Taj Mahal, and various others. The Mohan Vina is a creation of Bhatt's. He took a regular acoustic jazz guitar and augmented it with a secondary neck of sympathetic strings. He plays the main neck with a slide. A true pioneer.
