But its probally the most excited canucks related article ive read in a while!!! I can't wait for Jensen to ride with the big club!! New beginnings. September was all about new beginnings. The fall TV schedule kicked off with the debut of some new shows and the return of others (we still don’t know who the mother is in HIMYM!), tech-junkies got a fresh new toy to love/criticize depending on if you’re a fan of the iPhone 5 or not, and the NFL season kicked off, highlighted by the Seattle Seahawks fair and square victory over the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football in Week 3. A handful of Vancouver Canucks prospects also kicked off their respective 2012-13 seasons in September and three in particular stood out from the rest. Without further ado, Canucks.com brings you September’s Triple Crown. 1). Henrik Tommernes, Frolunda, Elitserien (Sweden) The Canucks seventh-round selection in the 2011 draft is off to a stellar start in the Swedish Elite League. Tommernes is currently tied for third among defenseman in the SEL with four points (2-2-4) in eight games played. The most impressive statistic may be the amount of big-time minutes Tommernes is logging, averaging 22:59 per game, which is good for eighth in the league in average time-on-ice. His highlight of the month came on September 20, when the six-foot rearguard found the back of the net 2:22 in overtime to give the Indians a 7-6 win over Modo. Frolunda is currently in sixth place with a record of 4-4. 2). Nicklas Jensen, AIK, Elitserien (Sweden) After making the decision to play in the Swedish Elite League as opposed to playing in the OHL, the Canucks first-round pick in 2011 is off to a good start to his 2012-13 campaign. Jensen registered four points (3-1-4) in six games in September, while averaging 16:00 of ice time per game. Jensen currently sits first in the league in goals among junior-aged players, and tied for third in goals among all skaters. Although the Denmark native enjoyed success on the ice during the month, the same can’t be said for his team, as AIK is still searching for its first win after going 0-7 to start the season. 3). Alexandre Grenier, EC Red Bull Salzburg, EBEL (Austria) After a slow month of August in European Trophy play had Grenier having to adjust to the European style of hockey, the Canucks third-round pick in 2011 turned it up a notch in September. The native of Laval, Quebec, registered four points (1-3-4) in six games, to go along with a stellar plus-five rating. This is Grenier’s first season in Europe after completing his junior career last season in the QMJHL with the Halifax Mooseheads. The Red Bull currently sit in fifth in the league with 10 points (5-3). Honourable Mention: Frankie Corrado, Sudbury Wolves, OHL Captain Corrado came out of the gates this season flying, picking up four points (0-4-4) in the first two games of the year. The Canucks fifth-round pick in 2011 was named second star in the Wolves 4-1 over Brampton on September 23rd, recording three assists. Since then, Corrado and the Wolves have not enjoyed the same success. The Woodbridge, Ontario, native has gone the last three games without a point, all losses as the Wolves have fallen to 2-3, being outscored 16-4 the last three games. Ty-Bits -Brendan Gaunce (1st round, 2012) picked up a pair of powerplay assists in the first game of the season, but has gone silent since, finishing the month with two points (0-2-2) in four games with the Bellevue Bulls (2-2) in the OHL. Gaunce picked up both assists while playing the point on the man advantage. -The newest Canucks prospect, Evan McEneny, picked up a pair of powerplay assists in September, giving him two points (0-2-2) in three games with the OHL’s Kitchener Rangers (3-1). McEneny missed the Rangers fourth game of the season with a lower-body injury that is not considered to be serious. -Ludwig Blomstrand (4th round, 2011) is still searching for his first point after five games with Djurgardens IF (3-4) in the Allsvenskan, a league in Sweden one notch below the Elitserien. -Pathrik Westerholm (6th round, 2011) is off to a good start with BIK Karlskoga (4-3) in the Allsvenskan, notching three points (1-2-3) in seven games. -David Honzik’s (3rd round, 2011) first season with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles (QMJHL) is on hold as the goaltender is still recovering from off-season shoulder surgery. Honzik is hoping to return to action soon. -The Chicago Wolves have kicked off training camp and will kick off their four-game pre-season on October 1st against the Peoria Rivermen. The Wolves kick off the regular season with a two-game series at home against their rivals, the Rockford IceHogs on October 13th and 14th. -The Kalamazoo Wings kick off their pre-season schedule on October 5th against the Toledo Walleye, exactly one week before the regular season gets going on October 12th with a clash against the Fort Wayne Komets.
