How bad does it hurt to get wisdom teeth out?

I actually got 2 out this week (tuesday to be exact).

I went to a specialist in Burnaby. I elected to just get the gum freeze and not get sedated. The part that hurt the most was actually just getting jabbed with the needle for the freezing (which I think everyone gets anyway?). I was awake for the whole thing and barely felt any pain during the procedure though I could feel it a bit when the teeth were getting pulled out. The only painkillers I've needed so far is just ibuprofen|(advil). The jury's still out on infections/dry sockets but the worst part for me is just not having the energy to do anything because I haven't eaten properly in 3 days.

Edit: my bottom wisdom teeth are also lying on their sides, but mine don't seem as urgent as yours.

For me they used a sedative on me so during the whole procedure I couldn't feel a thing but I would also be there to see what was going on but i was too doped out of mind to realize what they were doing.

However after the procedure I woke up and i was very dizzy probably because of the sedative and there was bleeding in my mouth but as long as you go along with the cleaning procedures they tell you and you have some painkillers it won't hurt that much so good luck.

Mine were minor so the doc just ripped em out and sent me on my way. The headaches I had daily went away after a week or so and the holes healed up fairly quickly too

It sounds like either some cases are minor and some are major, or, some people get scared in to paying for a lot of unnecessary procedures (getting put out etc).

I had all 4 pulled in 1 session. I didn't need to have them removed, had enough room to let em be. Because i was almost 21 and my mom's medical wouldn't cover it after my bday I figured I may as well just incase they gave me problems down the road. I opted to stay awake, glad I did, the whole thing took less than 10 minutes. The guy was a maniac, the amount of pressure he was putting on my teeth, if he slipped he would no doubt send his screw driver through the back of my head. He popped them out like a bartender opens beer bottles at the club Click Click Click!. Got home, had a beer and watched a movie, went to work that night with no problems. Didn't take any of the pain killers, no swelling or discomfort afterwards. Mine were almost fully grown out, but still i was one of the lucky ones. Some friends of mine were a wreck for days.

I went to a specialist. He put me to sleep, I woke up, and they were gone. I went home, took one Tylenol after a couple hours because I could feel the slightest bit of pain coming on, and it went away. So really, I never experienced any pain. It was more annoying that I was eating soft foods than anything.

I had them all out a couple of years ago, aint a thing.

Make sure they double freeze the top (if ever you have them done as well). It basically just feels like tight pressure then pop.

I had all 4 done at once. It went well untill a few days after and one became a dry socket. Drinking water was very painful.

A good way to avoid it is monitor how much bleeding you have a couple hours after the removal. If they haven't clotted take a tea bag, put it in cold water, than apply it to the sugery spot for 30 min and repeat for up to 4 hours. It contains certian acids that help with the clotting and could speed up your recovery.

See I hear that a lot and I hope I do not come across as ignorant because that isnt the intent but a lot of people that say this also say that they miss there pain killer schedule and that makes it worse? Was that the case with you?

I know personally once I get this done I will be taking pain killers every 4 hours regardless of whether I am asleep or not

Is my assumption correct in terms of that or were you heavily on pain killers as well

I had my top ones pulled out and it really hurt after. The bottom ones were a lot easier. Small dentist and she popped them out easily. Very little pain after. Just uncomfortable and could not eat solid foods for awhile because of the holes. I was not put under for either times.

So I have been having jaw pain for about a week and went to the dentist today. He said I needed to get both my wisdom teeth out but sadly he can not do either and I need to see a specialist.

Out of the 2 wisdom teeth in the lower jaw, one of my wisdom teeth is with a bunch of nerves and the other is laying on the side.

In terms of the upper wisdom teeth both are coming in normally.

Now with school and stuff I am obviously going to request the specialist to do the 2 that are painful (lower ones) first and the upper ones at a different point.

So having said all of this, how bad is getting your wisdom teeth out? Anyone have surgery or whatever have you as I am going to go through. I heard it is very painful after the procedure and during its fine. However, how long does recovery period in general tend to be? The receptionist who I booked a pre operation appointment with was telling me its 2-5 days.

All of this sucks because I have mid terms and stuff coming up so earliest I will be able to get the procedure down is 2-3 weeks from now. Until then I guess I will use amoxycillin which apparently is supposed to get the job done.
