Edler >>>>>>> Stuart
Raymond <<<<< Wheeler

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

Gaudreau has one NHL goal whereas all your "prized" prospects have none.

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

The improvement on our offence wouldn't make up for how much worse our D would get.

Mark stuart is a good leader and player.

Mark Stuart is not a 49 point, top pair, all-star defenseman.

Our defence gets worse more than our offense improves. Also, why do you have Higgins on the fourth line in every proposal?

That means Ballard needs to step up and Tanev will improve nicely.

That provides zero insurance of a good defence. They are both very good in a third pair role currently, but there is no guarantee one can fill Edler's role, because Stuart doesn't have a shot in hell of doing that and none of our prospects are able to fill the mold of a 50 point d-man in a second pairing.

Wheeler got 64 points in 80 games and is 6-5 205 pounds and hasn't even reached his prime.

Wheeler plays forward and doesn't make up for Edler on defence. :)

The deals you're proposing help us, but it is all happening because of the acquisition of a top six winger. IMO we should either be happy with our top 9, or acquire one through a Luongo deal.

I would do the deal. We desperately need to upgrade our top 6. Wheeler has a lot of the skills we are looking for up front. Unless Edler learns how to play defence he's expendable in my books. We might get more for him elsewhere though. Philly? Stuart is also turning into a very dependable defenceman.

Thanks for the fair offer but the Jets say no thank you!

Wheeler is currently our best forward and is a star forward in this league. As valuable as Edler would be to our lineup our biggest problem last season was our scoring and we are just in no position to give up our stud. We love Wheeler in Winnipeg.

This turns our defense into a pile of mush. We can't trade Edler.

And his ways aren't trading 49 points from the blueline.

Not bad from a Chicago perspective, except we don't have a 3rd round pick (or 2nd) in 2013, they were traded to Winnipeg for Johnny Oduya.

Is Saad loved by Chicago? I would love having him, and Kassian in our lineup.

Saad is the golden child according to Chicago management, he's untouchable. Many Blackhawk fans/writers have either Teravainen or Danault as our top prospects but the management is all about Saad. Whenever the season starts expect to see Saad on our 2nd line with Kane and Hossa.

His way isn't to deal our most naturally talented defenseman.

You're forcing Ballard to be a top-four player and there is no insurance. Stuart is a #5 type player.

It's funny how so many people are afraid to lose Edler. Look at the defensemen that the Bruins won with. Chara, Seidenberg, Kaberle, Ference, Boychuk and McQuaid. Not exactly the most offensively gifted bunch. Too much money is already sunk into the blueline and back end of this team. The Canucks D is kind of like a bad reno job; keep dumping more and more money in hoping for improvement. Instead of dropping big jack on defencemen every year, do something different and spend it on some quality offence rather than re-treads, cast-offs and reclamation projects. The OP's proposal is a decent idea..but I would prefer to shoot for the stars and go for Kane and settle on Wheeler. Spare the Kane is untouchable nonsense, you still have to aim high first.

It's different when you have a defenseman that can play 1/3 of the game
