You don't need someone on the internet to find this guy.

The cops already know who he is I'm sure. All they have to do is ask people from her schools, go through her cell phone texts and calls, or go through her computer files.

This guy will be caught, it's only a matter of time. And when he is, I hope he is punished to the full extent of the law.

If they can delay it enough, there may be a bullying law in place by then, that would allow them to add another charge to go along with extortion, statutory rape, and distributing child pornography.

That wouldn't work in Canada. http://en.wikipedia....acto_law#Canada

Man fired for posting negative comments on Amanda Todd's memorial page

CALGARY- The tragic story of Amanda Todd, the B.C. teen who allegedly took her own life due to bullying, has touched a nerve with people around the world.

A number of rallies aimed at taking a stand against bullying are planned around the country, and in one case, has led to a man being fired.

Calgary mother Christine Claveau saw a derogatory posting on Todd’s memorial Facebook page, and made it her mission to track down the person who wrote it.

“I just saw all these hateful comments, outrageous things, tormenting her after her passing,” Claveau said. “This one gentleman said something that just triggered something in me.”

So, she found out where he worked, and e-mailed his employer about the incident. The Toronto-based menswear chain took immediate action and fired him, saying they do not tolerate the mistreatment of others no matter what form it takes.

“These people need to know there are consequences, we all need to be more accountable,” Claveau said, adding it’s a way of exposing people who feel anonymous behind social media. “[We] need to take a zero tolerance approach to this.”

She and some other mothers now spend their time scouring message boards for people who make negative comments, and have been e-mailing their family members and employers to alert them to what’s being said in cyberspace.

A candlelight vigil is scheduled for Friday at Olympic Plaza in honour of Amanda Todd.

An anti-bullying and suicide prevention page called Bully Busters has also been set up to unite at-risk youth with their peers.

Anyone else think the news media needs to step back and stop making such a huge deal about the Amanda Todd case? Suicide from bullying is nothing new. Kids or anyone for that matter will start to look at suicide as an answer since they will finally get so much attention.

I think its time for media to switch gears and look at the events that led to her suicide and start to educate kids and parents on how to prevent this from happening again. While tragic, certain events could have been prevented with a little education about the dangers of internet and social media use and misuse for that matter.

Perhaps it's actually time for the media to step up and bring it more to light. This media attention is bringing about education and awareness not just about bullying but also about the consequences of our actions. Amanda Todd already had her consequence albeit in massive excess; now it's everyone elses turn.

I know it would be great if these things didn't happen but "taking a step back" and pretending that they don't happen or aren't a big enough deal is quite frankly ridiculously short sighted and imo borderlines on ignorance.

You can't preach education to one aspect of this without preaching awareness around everything about this. Well one could I suppose but they can't/shouldn't be taken seriously if they do.

I guess it's hard to understand for people who haven't been bullied. To put it in more understandable terms.

5 years ago, in grade 10, something happened one night that put me in so much physical pain, it was a 9.5/10 on a rating scale.
Now, I thought nothing of it, and each day the pain worsened. It got to the point where i was taking 8 - 10 short showers a day because it temporarily eased the pain. To make a long story short, I bit the bullet and didn't go to the doctor for THREE DAYS, turns out because I waited so long I needed emergency surgery, and had to go to the ER right then.

The point of that, is to way that when I was in grade 3/4 I was bullied to no end by one kid. Just One. The amount of mental pain and stress it places on you is terrible, so much so, that I would go through those 3 days of pain before the surgery again, just to make it so that, the bullying I experienced never took place.

-----

Keep in mind that that was one kid, I can't even begin to imagine how that girl made it so long with the whole world against her.

Not that I've heard. I also don't think it should be the focus of the discussion but curiosity is understandable. A previous time she attempted to commit suicide she drank bleach from what I heard.

Not sure who else listened to her mother on CKNW this morning with Philip Till but there was something very unnerving about the interview. I'm not going to pretend to comprehend what a mother in that situation is going through but I felt turned off when the mother said she wanted to fulfill Amanda's dream and get on Ellen. It was also revealed that Amanda stayed home "sick" Monday through Wednesday of last week and to me that should have been a huge red flag, easy to say given hindsight, but she had been hospitalized with mental illness in September.

Just a tragic story all around and as sad as it is to say I feel that no answers will come out of this. Criminalization of different types of bullying isn't the answer. Neither is the schoolboard's stance of never standing up to the bullys. This will continue to happen and there are countless children and teenagers right now suffering, afraid to go to school tomorrow. If I'm ever a father I will tell me children to do whatever they have to, within reason, to ensure that they are not tormented and stand behind them and be supportive. The politicians, school boards, etc. aren't going to get anything meaningful done. That being said I do like the message of the young NDP MP who is tabling a bipartisan look into developing a national bullying strategy. He seems like a very genuine person.

There's a code of ethics in the media industry revolving around issues such as suicide. One aspect is that the focus not be given to how the person committed suicide, as that may lead to imitations from others.

Hacktivists claim to have outed Amanda Todd’s online tormentor

A hacktivist group is claiming to have found the man who blackmailed Coquitlam teen Amanda Todd.

The group that calls itself Anonymous identified a 32-year-old New Westminster man, published his name, address, and email address online and linked him to accounts on forums and webcam involving underage teens.

In a Facebook post, the group said it has sent his information to RCMP. RCMP has not yet commented on the group’s findings.

A man with a similar name was in Surrey provincial court today on charges of sexual assault and sexual interference of a person under age 16 stemming from a separate incident in Surrey on Aug. 1.

Todd, a Grade 10 student in Coquitlam, was driven to suicide last week after being the target of years of bullying.

In a nine-minute video posted on YouTube, Todd explained through handwritten notes that she was asked to flash a person via a webcam when she was in Grade 7. The person blackmailed Todd, and when she refused, the photo was sent to her classmates and allegedly resulted in the bullying.
More to come.

Shouldn't be hard to find if it is the same guy. He did appear in Surrey court today. Anonymous should have just passed all the info to the RCMP instead of posting it publicly online. No need for some vigilante justice at this point, it will just get them in legal trouble as well, especially if it's the wrong person. Putting all his information online could potentially compromise a criminal investigation and a conviction.

Yeah, not to mention if it is him, and they DO get him on distributing child porn... he'll go to prison and end up getting shanked saving someone who's potentially a good person from getting in trouble with the law.

Although I suppose Anonymous has a thing about not trusting governments, and from their stand point I can see why you would post it publicly - to make sure the authorities ACTUALLY do something. And to get credit for being the ones who tracked them down.

Either way, kudos to them and here's to wishing all the pain in the world on the dude who actually is responsible.

I wouldn't want to run into him. Victimizing young girls really makes my blood boil. No telling what I would do and I don't even know Amanda. But I can relate having a younger sister to protect myself.

Much sympathy with the younger sister comment, but lets just give him a good knock around eh? Let the people already in jail deal with this dude. The end result is the same, although we won't get the personal satisfaction of having our hands around his neck, neither will we suffer the consequences.

With the high profile of this case, if he does go to Jail, you can expect him to sit in PC for the length of his sentence.

By posting it publicly, he could easily compromise the case the RCMP has against him, if it is the right person. The RCMP has to go through certain channels to be able to collect evidence legally. Otherwise it is inadmissible in court. I can pretty much guarantee the Anonymous did not do this and anything he hands over to the RCMP can likely be ripped apart by a defense lawyer.

Agree 100%. What's needed here is actual justice from an actual court not the court of public opinion. No matter what happens if he is guilty and he is convicted his sentence becomes much more than whatever a judge hands down; but that shouldn't come first.

I really don't see how what Anonymous did is any different then contacting Crime Stoppers - irregardless of how the RCMP comes into an "anonymous" tip, if they fact check, do their due diligence, ie - use legal means to get the appropriate evidence and build a case against him (where's Mackay's internet snooping bill now?) , then it really should be open and shut.

Yes - if the RCMP decide to jump the gun and cut corners, he could walk free... and sure, the RCMP are definitely capable of botching this case and completely comprising it, but I definitely have faith that the global attention this tragedy has brought will make sure the RCMP do indeed do do their due diligence.

And if they don't... and this guy who is guilty walks free.... meh, I for one won't shed a tear at some good ol' fashion frontier justice.

Something seems off about this. His twitter has no real followers, his facebook had no real friends, his Google + was often used, but was not added in anyone else's circle, his last name "Moxon" is nowhere to be found on anyone else's Facebook in BC (or in Canada), the area code they released with his number is "404" (could be a typo as we are 604), none of his profiles on the internet had a picture of him. No one has come out to say they know who he is yet.

Is he a loner? Did he change his name at one point? Did his family dis-own him after they found out about his ways?

The research clearly shows, that someone with that name is doing these AWFUL things, but something is off.

She was young so I can sympathize a bit with her. However, if she were older, I don't think I would be able to.

She made a lot of _REALLY_ stupid mistakes that lead to this, and then she killed herself. It was an incredibly selfish thing to do. Again, she was young, so I can appreciate that.

I still want the bullies put to justice ofcourse as it is also mostly their fault for this tragic outcome.

Keeping in mind there are children in third-world countries on the brink of starvation and ones who fight to their last breath with no help, no parents or counselling; it doesn't seem fair that we are not to sympathize with them and these children here get front-page news.
