D-Money
^^^ I like Marleau too, but I think he's done in San Jose. Cap may be going down, and yet San Jose has over 36.7 million tied up in an aging forward group. If they want to upgrade anywhere, they will need to cut some of that. I don't think it will be Thornton, and Havlat waived his NMC to go there not long ago. Most of the rest of the guys are far more affordable. I made a post in one of these Luongo threads on how similar his situation was to Marleau. Former captain (stripped of the C), but has peaked. Incredibly consistent in the regular season, but completely hot-and-cold in the playoffs (money one series, completely ineffective the next). Meanwhile, a younger, cheaper player is already starting to outperform him (Couture). I think the Sharks will cut their cap and the drama, and start fresh, rather than trying to sell the same old gang to the fans.
King of the ES
Truthfully, I think Luongo would accept a trade to San Jose; but like you said, Neimi would have to be moved at the same time to make it happen.
Gollumpus
No idea why it's relevant, but the Canucks won that series, so even though they made it very hard on themselves, you can't really call it a choke job like what happened against Boston. ConnorFutureGM
So it might be said that they were not choking at 100%? regards, G.

Smashian Kassian
What's really black and white is the fact that Boston won, and Vancouver lost. Because of this black and white fact, guys like you and Smashian are trying to pin some sort of explanation on why the Canucks lost, since you refuse to accept that such a powerhouse could actually lose
Smashian Kassian
10 years from now, are people going to remember the 2011 Stanley Cup final with the Canucks being devastated by injuries?
King of the ES
We still remember Lafayette hitting the post in 94, there is always a "what if" and that will be the "what if" for that team in that series.
Gollumpus
10 years from now, are people going to remember the 2011 Stanley Cup final with the Canucks being devastated by injuries? NO They are only going to remember one thing, Boston winning the cup.... Scratch that, they are going to remember two things, Boston winning the cup and the cry baby riot in Vancouver after. Gollumpus
I'm surprised that guys like you, and Stamkos' Mullet, haven't come out and said that you think New York and the NHL manipulated the width of the goal posts on that specific net, otherwise the Canucks would've definitely won. oldnews
Now, to the thread topic. Luongo. Say if Luongo would accept a trade to San Jose or Ottawa, who do you think the Canucks could get in return? I have a man-crush on Douglas Murray, so any trade with San Jose would be great to have him involved.
oldnews
Florida not only has 35 and 36 year old average goaltenders, but their prospect Jacob Markstrom not only is injury prone, but is also struggling this season in the AHL - 2 and 6 with a .892 sv% - and fighting to keep the starting job in San Antonio as he's getting outplayed by the 30 yr old Grumet-Morris... Luongo, Rodin Bjugstad, Petrovic, Upshall.
ConnorFutureGM
Gee, you may have something there. It's been a couple of years and it seems that King has already forgotten this. regards, G. PS - uh Connor, it's not "devastated by injuries". The correct expression is being devastated with playing not at 100%.

Gollumpus
Winning teams find a way to overcome deterrence's like not playing at 100%. The point is 10 years from now people aren't going to say the Canucks lost because they weren't playing at 100%, people will simply state that Boston was the better team which is true. shawn antoski
This is a very romanticized view of sports. The battered and bruised team, minus their star player "finds a way to overcome". More often than not, that team loses because they are battered and bruised and missing their star player. Since when does the better team always win? And why do you believe that people will simply state that Boston was the better team, which frankly isn't a true statement. It is an opinion. They might say Boston won the series, which would be a true statement. To say that the Bruins won because they were the "better" team leaves open the question of why they were the better team. And if that question is asked, then everything is back on the table for discussion, like all of those excuses (others call them reasons) with which some people find so inconvenient to deal. regards, G. oldnews
Luongo isn't much younger and goaltending wasn't a weakness for Florida last season. They don't need Luongo and are in the power position if there's a trade between the two teams.
