canucklax
Back on topic though, it was bound to happen eventually at one of the crossings going either way. There is nothing really that can be done to prevent an incident like this from happening, tightening the border even more would be a nightmare and hiring more CBSA officers is out of the question per the Federal budget. It's not like it would be needed anyways as this is something that hopefully only occurs once and a while. Hope the border guard will survive through this and hopefully the border reopens soon. You think if this was southbound the Americans would beef up the border even more though?
-Vintage Canuck-
RCMP: Lone man shot an officer in her booth at the Peace Arch crossing, he then shot himself. Don't know the motive for the shooting. Working with CBSA to figure out what led up to shooting. The Peace Arch will be closed for the next few hours. Please use alternative routes The officer was airlifted to hospital. She was breathing at the time. Unclear exactly where she was shot. The shooter was entering Canada. His vehicle had Washington State plates. We are looking at video surveillance to figure out what happened. Going through the suspect's vehicle right now. https://twitter.com/News1130radio
Dion Phaneuf
That one will definitely take a brunt of the traffic, there is one near chilliwack I've used before that seems to be under the radar, may be worth checking out: the extra drive time can easily be made up by shorter lines
Denguin
Wow that's insane. I have a female CBSA friend who works at the Peace Arch crossing... Fingers crossed it wasn't her who got shot. Best wishes to the officer.

hockeyville88
CTV BC Breaking News @CTVBCBRK "Peace Arch Border Crossing will remain closed for the foreseeable future." - #RCMP Cpl. Bert Paquet That's terrible. Those border guards process hundreds of people per day. It's pretty scary for something like this to happen out of the blue. Wonder what the shooter's motive was. Best wishes to the officer
Grapefruits
Canadian border guard shot in booth at B.C. crossing A lone gunman shot a Canadian border agent inside her booth at a B.C. crossing point Tuesday before turning his gun on himself, RCMP said. Surrey RCMP Cpl. Bert Paquet said the officer was airlifted to hospital and "was breathing at the time," but her condition was not known. Officers responded to a 911 call from a witness at 2 p.m., and found the border agent wounded and the gunman dead. "In the incident following the shooting of the officer, the lone male was pronounced dead at the scene from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound," Paquet told reporters. He said the border agent was airlifted to hospital and "was breathing at the time," but her condition is not known. Little was known about the identity of the gunman, other than that he was in a vehicle bearing a Washington license plate. The Canadian Border Services Agency said the incident happened at the Douglas Border Crossing in Surrey. The border crossing has been closed and the CBSA advises travelers to divert to the Pacific Highway or Aldergrove Crossing. Minister of Public Safety Vic Toews said he was "deeply concerned" by the shooting. "This event is a sobering reminder of the dangerous conditions faced daily by the men and women of our law enforcement agencies as they work to protect the safety and security of Canadians," he said. The Douglas Border Crossing, also known as the Peace Arch border, is the third busiest U.S.-Canada crossing point. About 4,800 vehicles pass through the crossing during peak periods, with delays up to four hours on either side.
