Pears
It's funny how everyone is ripping you but this is a pretty good deal. The Rangers refused to trade any of those players to the Jackets for Nash.

LeanBeef
Can we give them Hamhuis too? Hamhuis-Girardi seems like a solid pairing

palindrom
is Vancouver a rebuilding team, sacrificing their cup chance for the future? Thats a very good trade for Vancouver considering summer 2014 The Sedin could come back to Vancouver as UFA, after playing a single season with the NYR (if 2012-2013 is cancelled)
ConnorFutureGM
So 2 second liners, a top 4 D man, a prospect and 2 firsts for two superstars. This is something a rebuilding team would do, which we aren't.
palindrom
The Canucks would be deeper now and better in 3 years then they would be without the trade. I don't think the Rangers would do this trade.

Pears
Does that mean the NYR would be weaker now and weaker 3 years in the future?
ConnorFutureGM
Why would they be weaker now? Sedin - Sedin - Gaborik Nash - Richards - Kreider McDonagh - Girardi Del Zotto - Stralman Absolutely deadly top six and top 4.
logic
Stralman is not a top 4 defenceman and Del Zotto isn't to be relied upon defensively. Kreider was in the trade to the Sedins and even then there would be a big drop off after their top heavy top 6. Winning the cup is either about depth or superstars. I don't put the Sedins in the superstar category (Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos, Ovechkin the former).
ConnorFutureGM
So the Sedins put up more points than Ovi and they aren't superstars? Seems legit

logic
I said Ovechkin the former. Superstars are the players that non hardcore hockey fans know about. The players that drive up ticket sales because they're playing. Sedins put up points but they don't sell tickets.
ConnorFutureGM
You're telling me people don't know about the two Swedish twin brothers drafted second and third overall, won the art Ross back to back years, won a gold medal together and are annual PPG players
