Just throwing this idea out there, the CPU controlled teams just continues to get worse year after year, it would be nice if they were somewhat competitive but they never sign anyone in free agency. Would you guys be up for allowing trades to the CPU teams?

The only rules would be for us to accept the trade it clearly has to be in favor of the CPU it can't be at the draft for guys that are out of contract, or rental players at the trade deadline if the team isn't in the playoff race.

What do you guys think, this might be a way to get the CPU more competitive. I mean Toronto has 48 million in cap and letting Reimer walk...

They also signed a guy in the 50s overall to a 8.5 million contract just to hit the floor.

I could dump Raymond to a cpu team for a pick (preferably a 2nd rounder) or a 3 star prospects thats below 60ovr.

I'd be okay with that I have a starting goalie that I could trade to CPU for a pick or any other team if anyone's interested.

Our concern is though teams will use the CPU as locations for cap dumps etc.. It would be best if other GMs just join and try to rebuild them.

I also can see there being more arguments and frustration when people's proposals are rejected. It will also be a lot more work for Trav to analyze every trade, he is already doing too much for this league.

Maybe it isn't such a great idea after all

Another idea could be for some GMs who want a challenge they can take another team in the league as long as they never trade with themselves or sign free agents that their other team released. Some of you guys are already in multiple leagues

I haven't run this by Trav yet, I just thought of the idea.

Well, this isn't really a cap dump for me. I have too many LWs on my team, thus I need to trade Raymond, somewhere. Other GMs are only willing to pay a 3rd rounder for him, which in my books, isn't enough for a 40+ point player.

I wasn't referring to your proposal we are just saying in general.

If we were to allow trading with the CPU, it would have to be clearly in favor of the CPU for it to go through.

It could be like adopting a foster team.
But I would not allow trading at all, only problems can arise from trading.
Allow signings, the purchase of only 1 UFA per 1st day of UFA's after day 1 it could be open season and setting draft priority, scouting,Roster changes, development, etc.
Team would be left on CPU

We have 6 vacant teams and maybe a few other semi-vacant teams? We could probably round up some non-CDC members or maybe allow some of our more active members to run a second team with a secondary account (with obvious restrictions like no trading between clubs with the same owner) until we can find a suitable GM to take over.

Just floating ideas out there.

I haven't run this by Trav yet, I just thought of the idea.

I'd be up for it since I'll already be familiar with all the time-consuming stuff in the league (i.e. the draft, which I usually spend about 4-6 hours on analyzing and compiling a full 210-player draft priority list each year).

A few other ground rules that should be in place:
  • Have to share scouting reports via pictures from the secondary teams on the forums (otherwise the original GM gets the benefit of 2 scouting reports, which isn't fair to GMs who aren't running 2 teams. Only upload pics of prospects that have 3 or more scouting visits (2 or less is a waste of time and bandwidth))
  • Must make serious attempts to re-sign core players (obviously)
  • Must set team to AI so others can watch games against that team and be available to fix rosters within a timely manner should an injury occur.
  • Secondary team should be in the opposite conference so GMs aren't compelled to squash competition for their primary team.
  • Be willing to relinquish the team should another suitable GM wish to join the league.

Vacant teams:
  • Los Angeles Kings
  • Minnesota Wild
  • Tampa Bay Lightning
  • Toronto Maple Leafs
  • Vancouver Canucks
Is St. Louis a real GM or is that mpt/D&D?

I guess I could take Toronto since I would enjoy building from the ground up.

shawu127 has been hired as the GM of the Blues. Welcome to our league!

This is also a reminder that Tanguay has to be let go to UFA since he was a 1 year signing over 82 last July 1. I hope Carolina didn't re-sign him. If you did, you need to buy him out.

Huberdeau, Birkholz, Pakarinen, Kulikov, Petrovic, Markstrom, Donskoi, Mcfadden all young players drafted and developed by the Panthers.

I acquired Skinner when he was 20, Schenn when he was 21, Leddy when he was 21, Sutter when he was 23 and Pielmeier when he was 23 so I consider these players the product of the Florida Panthers development program.

So...

if you divide the number of players I mentioned above: 13 by the number of players on my roster: 21, you can clearly see that 62% of my team is built from within.

relax bud i was just kidding... but Skinner, Schenn, Leddy, and Sutter were all NHL ready when you acquired them, therefore you didn't develop them.

All I am saying is that you are contradicting yourself by showing your roster which you essentially traded for except a few players and then saying you "build from within".

The Nashville Predators have extended what we feel are generous final offers to Chris Butler, Paul Gaustad, Teemu Laakso, and Chet Pickard.

It's up to the players and their respective agents now as to whether or not they would like to continue to be a part of our winning organization that has made the playoffs in 9 consecutive seasons.
