Question About Dr. No & All Old Bond Movies

Definitely worth watching the older ones. Growing up, I liked the Connery version the best, mainly because he was my parents' favourite. However, when I was older, I really appreciated Roger Moore's version, and still prefer his to this date.

My favourite Bond film is The Spy Who Loved me, starring Ringo Starr's wife, Barbara Bach.

Most people who didn't grow up watching them probably won't appreciate them as much as the older generation does.

I dont think you could call any one of the bond movies "bad". They are all worth watching. Thats a lot to watch tho. 23 movies including Skyfall.

I would try to see them in order if possible. Its not necessary to the plot or anything since they are each stand alone stories but if you are going to watch them all might as well.

OK, Die Another Day, one of Pierce Brosnans Bond movies is bad. Not because of Brosnan it is just over the top stupid from start to end. The hovercraft chase scene in particular is amazing in that every single thing that gets shot at or touched at all blows up spectacularly. Pile of wood? sideswipe it with a hovercraft and Boom it blows up like its made out of dynamite. The goofiest Bond movie and Id say the worst. But its still worth watching once.

Goldfinger is consider the favorite among all the Bond films because of the many elements gadgets, cars, girl, villain, henchman.

FRWL is classic and consider the best of all the movies until Skyfall which is even better as reviewed by critics as the best ever..

Meanwhile

DAF, MR, DAD are among the worst ever

I'd say it's worth the watch to go through them all, but that's easy for me to say, as it's my favourite film series of all time. Although there's actually quite a few of them that I don't care to re-watch much personally, I still say they shouldn't be avoided all together. Except maybe Quantum of Solace, because that one really sucked ass.

The best in my opinion is From Russia With Love, although I have many favourites. The original run of Connery films are the best of the bunch, I have to say.

I actually haven't watched the Bond films for several years (pretty much since the Roger Moore days) but I'd say the early films are definitely worth watching. For my money, Sean Connery is the real Bond. Some of the others are good, but it just isn't the same...

Some other early Bond films that I liked were Thunderball and Diamonds are Forever.

The ones I'd skip are:

Diamonds Are Forever

View to a Kill

License to Kill

Die Another Day

Depends on how you view old movies in general. Some people if it's not a car chase/sex scene/gunfight every 30 seconds they get bored.

My favorites are From Russia With Love, On Her Majesty's Secret Service (Yes for a rookie actor I think Lazenby did fine), For Your Eyes Only, and Casino Royale and Goldfinger (Yes just for the car).

This is an action scene from On Her Majesty's Secret Service. If this bores you, then you'll get an idea:

Craig suits the overall feel of the 'darker' James Bond reboot. I think people got tired of the old Bond stereotype.

After seeing Craig's performance in Layer Cake, i thought 'Man, if this guy wasn't blonde and grew a couple inches, he'd be a perfect James Bond.'

Anyway, if the alternative was Jason Statham or Robbie Williams, i'm happy with Craig.

Jude Law: Not actiony enough.

Heath Ledger: Too dead.

Eric Bana: Bah.

Colin Firth: Too old, weak and Bridget Jonesy.

Orlando Bloom: No thanks.

Hugh Grant: Hahaha. No thanks.

Craig's signed on for two more movies. James McAvoy (Professor X) from X-Men First Class is rumoured to take over, but i'd sooner pick Michael Fassbender (Magneto). Seems much more Bond-like. Esp. if they want to continue the 'darker' Bond theme. However, he's too German. Way too German.

Another decent Bond would be Tom Hardy. (Bane) He is British. But he has bulked up perhaps a bit too much for his recent roles and he isn't quite polished enough for Bond.

Whatever. Problem for years away.
