Are you supposed to take the soaps/shampoos/etc that are in the bathroom when you leave? Do you replace them regardless? My mother has always seen it as a horrible, ill-mannered thing to do

Do you guys clean the showers every day? Do you recommend guests wearing flip flops in the shower?

We literally have a room that is full of thousands of bottles of shampoos and soaps. Whenever the rooms get cleaned, the soaps and shampoos get re-filled. (for long staying guests too) It is in no way an ill-mannered thing to take them with you. (A good alternative would be to bring them home with you, and include them in an Operation Christmas Child shoebox.)

Showers are cleaned daily as a part of the daily cleaning routine, unless the guest asks us to not clean it.

Is it common for you to see men bringing in mistresses? Now I don't mean guys hooking up with random females and/or prostitutes, I'm talking about men who you can tell are somewhat well-off, have a family but have someone on the side.

This is actually sad but very true. You can easily tell who is cheating on their wife / husband. They use a separate bank account, say only one person is in the room, but we find their female friend, they keep everything hush, hush and asked to be black-listed so no one knows they are in the hotel.

How romantic.

It was a joke, don't take too much of what I say in WN too seriously. :P

Any regulars at your chain? LOL

The good kind of regulars? yes.

The bad kind? We usually start to turn them away after a while. We are aiming to become more of a business hotel once our renovations are done by next year.

This is the most interesting thread I've seen in a long time.

What's the most disgusting thing you've seen left behind in a room?

I love Operation Christmas Child, that's a great organization. Do you guys support or give items, like the soap, to any non-profit organizations?

The most common one I get when I answer the phone tends to be: "Send help, I'm out of Toilet paper!"

The funniest one I got was a woman called the hotel from our parking lot, asking for help because she locked herself in her rental car, and couldn't unlock the door to get out. She was a crying and screaming mess by the time I got to her, I told her to pull up on the little plastic stick on her door.

Another strange one I had was someone asked me if they were able to drink the tap water... from the sound of their voice, they were from India and it was their first time to Canada. I know when you think about it, it would be a good question for them to ask, but I laughed all day because of that. I mean, we live in Canada!

Our chain used to, but we switched organizations. We now help habitat for Humanity with money donations (from staff and guests) and we also participate in building houses.

Unfortunately, housekeeping gets to see all the horrible things. The weirdest thing I have found, like I said in a post above, was a 'furry' blow up doll thing... (that the guest INSISTED it wasn't his, but came back three weeks later to claim it,)

I usually find skimpy cloths, (used) condoms, and other adult items. But those really aren't considered 'weird'.

Have any of the maids ever got it on with a guest?

What's the most awkward situation you've had at the hotel?

Not while I have worked there.
The windows are designed to open in all guestrooms, but they are so small that not even a child can fall though them.

However,

A couple of years ago lady killed her two children (I believe she drowned them in a bathtub) and drove to my hotel. She had lunch in the restaurant, and after her meal, she walked out of the hotel and proceeded to a nearby overpass. She jumped off of it, hoping to either die from the fall and/or be run over. She did not die however, and is now facing jail time. (That's how I remember the story to the best of my knowledge.)

1) Not that I have been maid aware of... (SEE WHAT I DID THERE!!!?!?!!)

2) A cab driver dropped off a VERY drunken trans-gendered individual at our front steps, telling us that the individual threw up in his cab, and has no money. The cab driver took the individuals cell phone as compensation, until the individual could get the money to may him.
The cab driver left me all of his contact info. I had to walk this drunken, and very odd individual to a bar that is located about six blocks from our hotel. The individual thanked me for helping them get to the club and before I left he said, 'I will see you again later tonight".

About four hours later (3 am) the individual came back to the hotel from the club.... along with another guest... or a customer as the individual would call them.... :s

Nope. besides what happens on non-company time (Christmas parties and breaks) It's a pretty bland and professional work environment.

Have you ever taken a quick nap in an empty room?

Do guests ever actually order porn? I've always thought that was just something that only happened in movies.

I would. It's a pretty decent hotel that is going to get a lot better once we finish renovating it.

I have stayed there three times. (one including an orientation stay every staff member must have so we know the guests experience)

I have never taken a nap in an empty room, I have my office for that! :P

We do have adult films on the in room movie listings, but once we get out new rooms, we are doing away with in room movies, and hopefully having Shaw HD in the rooms with like 100 Channels (no adult channels)

I would say 9. Our hotel is 11 stories tall, and since I'm in the security department, I have the master key for every door and room in the whole building.
