Malaria
A hostage situation at New Westminster's Starlight Casino has caused major traffic disruptions early Thursday. Buses in the area of Queensborough Bridge in New Westminster were on altered service because of the closure of the southbound lanes. Northbound access from the Alex Fraser Bridge on Highway 91A is so far not affected. All accesses to the casino were also blocked by the police presence. As of 7 a.m., TransLink spokesman Drew Snider noted the following bus service changes: • No. 104 is terminating at 22nd Street station, with no service to Annacis Island; there is one shuttle bus on Annacis. • No. 340 is using the Pattullo Bridge to get to 22nd Street SkyTrain station. • No. 410 is on its regular route northbound to 22nd Street station, but the return trip is via Marine Way and Knight Street Bridge. No immediate word on how long the closure is expected to last, but commuters should consider alternate routes.

:D
Insane. I was there at like midnight playing Blackjack. I could hear a bunch of sirens on the bridge like an hour and a half ago, possibly related. Anyone have news?

:D
They're saying on the news that it isn't a hostage taking, but a standoff with a man that may be armed. Similar to the Pacific Rim incident a few weeks ago.

:D
Walked over to the corner to see what was up. All I know for sure is that they didn't need to deputize a new police dog to assist, sorry Harry.
NucksPatsFan
Apparently he's taken a female staff worker as hostage. They're using a robot to bring a cell phone to him now.
