Tell that to the people that are hyping Zack Kassian to death in the Prospects board.
Justin Schultz, at least, deserves the hype that he's getting. 7 goals, 16 points, 12 games played. Leading a team in offense that includes Jordan Eberle, RNH, and Paajarvi. The attention that he's getting is well-deserved.
Lots of defensemen put up a point a game or more in the AHL. That doesn't means they're going to translate that to the NHL.
Why isn't there a thread about Justin Faulk? He's basically doing what Schultz is, and he's two years younger. That's what people forget about him, is that he's not an 18 year old kid, he's 22. He should be in the NHL at this point, and would be if there wasn't a lockout.
But thinking that he's going to be an all star because of AHL success is just silly. The fact that he's outscoring guys like Jordan Eberle and RNH means nothing. That team is built on having a strong powerplay, and when your a powerplay QB playing with those two players, you're gonna pick up lots of points. They're not going to be clicking at that rate in the NHL though, that's all but guaranteed.
If anything, having guys like Eberle and RNH be outscored by players like Bolduc and Sgarbossa, just shows that the AHL is not a good league for gauging players. Point a game players in the NHL should realistically dominate the AHL, but they don't. It's a much different game than the NHL.
