Ok, a little off topic but back in the day, I thought the Nazis only used the word "Socialist" in their party's name to appeal to the working class and gain popularity, while still holding a deep hatred for socialist and communist ideals.

Am I wrong? If not then why do political parties like the "National Socialist Party of Canada" which contain Nazi-like elements, continue to use the S word? Or are these guys for real insofar as they actually value Socialist ideals?

The expression "national socialist" is different than "socialist" by itself. Nazi is short for the German translation of national socialist, Nationalsozialismus. The major difference is that national socialism does not ban private property. Private citizens can own property, but they are to be directed by the state. Both national socialist (aka fascists) and regular socialists (aka communists) claim ownership over the word socialism. Both claim the other have grossly misinterpreted the term.

Yes, this stupifying bit of illiteracy has plagued the online world for years. What do they teach in school now? I have no clue as I haven't been for, well, longer than many have been alive on this forum and had no children. When I was in grade school we were taught a very simple technique in using the right form of the word. As their is a type of pronoun (possesive personal) and it is the only one of the three to contain another pronoun, it's the one you use as a pronoun (or a possesive adjective as the case may be). If you are misusing they're I have no words. The other one then(there) would be the one you want to use in all other instances.

The only real difference between Soviet and National Socialism is that the latter was more racist.

At the end of the say both systems resulted in heavily militarized police states that revolved around a cultic political religion and underneith all the window dressing, featured a priviledged oligarchic elite ruling over a middle-classless serf society.

Both called each other "Comrade" and liked their soldiers to goose-step too.

Anyway, I believe the government has no business involving what a private citizen says online as long as no actual threats were made.

What's more is that probably 98% of these Stormfront types are the biggest weenies ever and just aren't worth taking seriously. I've heard worse out out of cops mouths than any skinhead I've run into in person.

Oh good, the british net nanny gestapo have arrived. We're all saved. Surely there's got to be actual criminals worthy of law enforcement's time.. if not, time to start letting them go and saving money.

You did read the link, right?

He was criminally charged but the Crown screwed up and dragged out the case too long and the case was dismissed per the Charter guarantee of a speedy trial.

In addition to criminal charges there are also regulatory offences enforced under the federal and provincial human rights acts and codes as occurred here.

Racism isn't ok but what about freedom of speech? I don't like listining to hate being spewed about by ignorant people but I enjoy being able to speak my mind so I put up with it.

Isn't that the double-edged sword that is freedom of speech?

There is no such thing as unlimited freedom of speech - we have laws against defamation, threats, etc.

The Charter is clear that there are limits on all rights and freedoms - in fact it is Section 1 of the Charter:

1. The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees the rights and freedoms set out in it subject only to such reasonable limits prescribed by law as can be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society.

Even in that alleged bastion of free speech, the US of A there is a maxim pronounced by Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes (one of the staunchest defenders of civil rights) of the SCOTUS:

The most stringent protection of free speech would not protect a man falsely shouting fire in a theater and causing a panic. [...] The question in every case is whether the words used are used in such circumstances and are of such a nature as to create a clear and present danger that they will bring about the substantive evils that Congress has a right to prevent.

Schenck v. United States, 249 U.S. 47 (1919)

And as this ongoing case that just began this week following the election of President Obama - freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences - legal, civil and personal.

A 22-year-old woman has been fired from her job and reported to the Secret Service after writing on her Facebook page her hopes that President Obama is assassinated in his second term in office.

'And another 4 years of the (N-word). Maybe he will get assassinated this term..!!'

Denise Helms of Turlock, California wrote immediately after the president's re-election on Tuesday.

'I didn't think it'd be that big of a deal,' she told KTXL on Thursday while visibly shaken up, but unapologetic and unsure of what she did wrong.

'The assassination part is harsh and I'm not saying that I would go and do that or anything like that by any means but if it was to happen I don't think I would care one bit,' she said.

Now fired from her job at a local Cold Stone Creamery on Thursday, the post was described as disgusting by the store's director who told the Modesto Bee that when he arrived to work he had more than 20 angry voice messages on his company’s machine directed toward Ms Helms.

‘We made the decision because of her comments, but also the community feedback,' said Director Chris Kegle who had employed Ms Helms for less than one year.

'We are very into working with the community and doing community service. So when your community does not like you because of an employee, that's bad. We have a business to run.'

Despite all this, she said she wouldn't take her comments back.

The Modesto Bee reports Ms Helms being a fan of Republican rival Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan’s campaign according to her Facebook page but report her not registered in the state’s registry to vote.

Asked by KTXL if she’s racist after additionally using the N-word in referring to Obama, she defended herself as not, but also didn't disagree with herself using it.

That disagreement was in sharp contrast to Twitter users across the country, however, who angrily branded her Facebook post among a list of others titled: 'Yes, You're Racist.'

Secret Service Agent Scott Gillingham in Sacramento says Ms Helms’ post is being investigated with threats against the president having the potential to lead to felony charges.

racism caused many and many wars in the past...

and will cause many and many wars in the future...

just see the history. when something goes wrong with the economy what is the easiest way?

1) blame the government and ourselves because they/us spent more money than they/we had and not managed properly...

2) blame other countries, people, religion...

happened with Germany after the WW1, and add a lunatic like Hitler and everyone know what happened...

I don´t have to like something but I must respect the choices that other people made. be a Racist is when you want eliminate anything that is different from you or your culture...

by the way. anything related with Nazism should be considered a Terrorism. these jerks must receice the same treatment done in WW2
