re alignment
div 1: west
anaheim
calgary
colorado
edmonton
LA
san jose
seattle(relocated columbus)
vancouver

div 2:central
chicago
dallas
detroit
minnesota
nashville
st. louis
winnipeg

div 3: south
buffalo
carolina
florida
philadelphia
pittsburgh
tampa bay
washington

div 4: east
boston
brooklyn islanders(they should rename the team)
quebec(relocated phoenix)
montreal
new jersey
new york rangers
ottawa
toronto

playoffs:
if 5th place team in west has more points than 4th place team in central, the 5th place team in west takes the 4th place central teams spot and vica versa. same goes for east and south divisions

1st round
top 4 teams from each division play each other best of 7 series
1 vs 4: 1 wins
2 vs 3: 2 wins

2nd round
1 vs 2: 1 wins

3rd round
top team from each division plays each other
1west vs 1central: 1west wins
1south vs 1 east: 1south wins

finals
winner of each match play eachother
1west vs 1 south: 1west wins

-there's no teams that are left in the middle of no where like florida and tampa were last proposal
-majority of rivalries are kept together: PIT vs PHI,PIT vs WAS, DET vs CHI, BOS vs MTL, CGY vs EDM etc...
-new rivalries can brew: NYR vs BOS, BUF vs PIT, VAN vs SEA, WIN vs MIN etc...
-new structure to give teams more incentive to do better than other divisions teams due to possible crossover of teams.
-dont think there will be an expansion until bad financial teams do better and revenue sharing is better. expansion cities should be NOT be in non-traditional hockey markets, thats what screwing everything up

so what do you think? feedback and other ideas?

Current format makes it much more interesting, new match ups in the playoffs year after year and doesnt get boring. You can have a dominant division and a crap division, and this format would benefit crap divisions.

Cross over would get confusing, personally wouldnt like the idea.

I wouldn't change anything about the current format.

the problem with that is teams like dallas and minnesota are complaining about their divisions. dallas and minnesota are much closer to the central division than the NW and pacific. this has been a big problem for several teams not being in divisions and complaining about travel so a format switch is necessary to satisfy teams needs. since winnipeg will move to the western conference a team must move over to the east. all of detroit, nashville and columbus are arguing that it should be their teams respectively. a structure switch is necessary to accommodate all teams needs

the idea of having Datsuk, Sid/malkin, Ovi, giroux, stamkos, all the staals, kovulchuk, nash/richards, and tavares in the same division is scorgasmic..

wasnt a proposal like that rejected because tampa and florida were outed and would have to go over a conference to play in their conference.
