#bulldogs Blake Geoffrion was rushed to the hospital due to a head injury and he's currently in surgery at the moment.

Canadiens prospect Blake Geoffrion was the victim of a head injury when he fell to the ice following a hit from Jean-Philippe Cote, La Presse writer Marc Antoine Godin reports. There was blood on the ice as he exited Friday’s game between Geoffrion’s AHL Hamilton Bulldogs and the Syracuse Crunch.

He was hospitalized and needed surgery, according to Canadian Press writer Heather Engel.

The good news is that Bulldogs head coach Sylvain Lefebvre said that the injury isn’t life-threatening. It’s also worth noting that his helmet was still on when he skated off the ice.

Beyond that, not much information has been released yet regarding the nature or severity of Geoffrion’s injury.

Geoffrion was taken in the second round of the 2008 NHL entry draft and excelled with the University of Wisconsin. Over the past few years, Geoffrion he been trying to establish himself at the NHL level and has 55 combined games with the Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators on his resume.

What happened? Did he get hit in the head? Or did his head his the ice after the hit? Was the hit dirty?

Anyone have any idea?

Hopefully he is okay, Good thing it isn't life threatening. never like to see anything like this happen.

Looked like Cote's skate caught him in the head on his way down to the ice.

Nothing wrong with the hit, just got cut going down.

Nonetheless hope he recovers fast

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

Yikes! Always liked Geoffrion when he was with the Preds, even moreso with the Habs. Get well soon, Geoffy!

Pretty nasty hit, totally clean though. Too bad he was injured. Looks like it was caused by his head hitting the ice or the glass. Also pretty scary how he gets hit in the head with a skate, that could have hurt him as well. Good thing he seems ok, hope he gets better soon.

Edit: according to the Montreal Canadiens update, it was a depressed skull fracture and he,s expected to make a full recovery

With hockey helmets, too much emphasis is placed on comfort and appearance I believe. And of the models available, the CCM that he was wearing is probably one of the least protective. The league should mandate the use of the higher end helmets.
