Okay I know you guys are going to think I'm nuts but I don't think Toronto would trade Bozak. Now before you call me crazy and tell me to go sit in the corner and think about what I did, hear me out. I don't think the Leafs would trade Bozak UNLESS they got a center in return. The Leafs are extremely weak down the middle. It's kinda crazy how weak they are down the middle. Even though Bozak isn't an amazing center he's one of the best ones they have. I don't see them giving Bozak up unless they get a center in return.
I mean they're so desperate for centers they're going to try and put JVR in the middle. Not a knock on JVR it's just that the dude is a winger. As far as I know he has never played center before.
Anyways it's still a solid proposal. I think when we trade Lu the trade will look similar to this.
<== corner's that way
Seriously though, Bozak's really a stop-gap option for the still-vacant #1 center role, who was pretty clearly helped along by his two All-Star line mates (Lupul and Kessel who both scored at 1+ points/game) even though he scored at a very respectable 0.64 p.p.g.
Plus if you watch highlights of Kessel scoring he's primarily set up by Lupul, whereas Bozak doesn't impact that line very much. The dynamic there is similar to that of the Sedins and early-career Burrows: Not that it should be counted as a knock against him but on a line like that with two All-Stars Tyler's somewhat of a Burrows to that line, filling a need and being talented enough to fit there and complement the group, but it's his line mates and not him who makes the line go.
He would make a very solid 2nd/3rd line young play making center who can also shoot, pass, play physically, play on the PK... he'd definitely fill a role on this team but I disagree he's not what Toronto needs at the 1st C spot (I think if Connolly was back in form he can do more damage with the two All-Stars since he's an even stronger (talent-wise) play maker than Tyler, as Mullet said. Don't forget, Burke also still has faith in Kadri and Colborne playing bigger offensive roles and they would have higher upside than Tyler, and McClement has the 3rd line locked down.
If Tim's healthy the lines could very well be
Lupul - Connolly - Kessel
Mac - Grabo - Kulemin (this line has been gold in all situations, Burke won't break it for J.V.R. IMO)
J.V.R. - MacClement - Frattin
(if either Kadri or Colborne lives up to potential I would bump McClement down to the 4th)
That's a set 1st line, a set 2nd and a 3rd already with 3 possible candidates who bring different elements in their game (5 centers for 3 spots).
