I'm sensing a landslide here, but we'll see. I'm voting for Vladislav Tretiak, arguably the best goalie never to play in the NHL.

His play in the 1972 Summit Series was a huge reason why Canada struggled so much.

I'm going to nominate the guy who almost made it last time, Mike Gartner.

Gartner didn't have any unbelievable seasons, but he sure had a lot of really good ones. He holds a tie with Jagr for the most consecutive 30-goal seasons at a mind boggling 15 and has the record for 30-goal seasons at 17. He won three fastest skater competitions and was widely known as the fastest skater in the league.

His consistency can be seen from these two records with the Capitals.

  • Washington Capitals record for longest point-streak - 17 games (twice)

  • Washington Capitals record for longest goal-scoring-streak (1986-87) - 9 games (shares record)

He ended up with 708 career goals, 6th All-Time.

In 2001 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

His number 11 was retired by the Washington Capitals in 2008.

I have been swayed by the Tretiak battle. Vote Tretiak! (you can never have too many goalies on the list!)

3 Olympic Gold medals

10 World Championships Gold

Canada Cup Gold

Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1989

Something most people don't know... he was drafted by the Canadiens in 1983 (138th overall).

I'll have to give some thought to my next nomination...
