You guys are forgetting that Blake Comeau, Rusty Klesla and Tyler Bozak will be UFA's.

Can't forget about star players such as Matt Stajan, Cam Barker and Scott Clemmensen.

What...?

Short version, I fracked up and felt guilty as hell for wasting OTTS' time, wanted him to walk away with something for his time.

How would it make free agency stronger? People are just going to buy out over-paid, under-performing players

You're forgetting our Burmistrov trade, kinda in the same category.

Matthew Martin, 2.5 a year. Free agency would be 90% former Swee signings

Ours was a gm playing both of us, so we worked out a trade with actual players that worked for everyone. He literally gave away picks and prospects for nothing

We should do 64 M with 1 buyout.

Would be a lot more strategy in assembling a good team.

1 buyout wouldn't get most teams down to 64M.

While this would completely F*** over my current build, it sounds like fun to me.

Though, it would probably be better if this was done next season at this point.

That's the idea.

A lower salary cap will allow a deeper FA pool yearly, and bad teams will have the opportunity to get very good while very good teams will regress.

This would require a team to either buy out it's top player, or do some tricky maneuvering.

You're assuming players would be paid the same, if the cap decreases, so will each players payment proportionally

I say 1 buyout is fine with no rollbacks, so salarys / caphits remain the same.

I'd assume players pay would be about the same.

Getzlaf got 8.5 long term with a 64 M salary cap, hell Travis Zajac got 5.75.

This isn't far off from what they would've had in the old 70.2 world.

It's a discussion for next season but teams have already put plans in place for the existing salary cap.

A decision for next season should be made by the 40 game mark of the season so teams can plan in advance.

Eh, I'm against the buy out idea and the drop to 64M in one swoop. Would rather see the cap gradually lowered over 2-3 seasons instead after next season. eg. 71, 68, 64

I'd be in favour of deciding whether or not this is going to happen for the season after the upcoming one now.

Im open to the idea, and as most people are in the same boat, I would say that would be something for next season (2015).

I would be fine for cap if we did it this year, but I know many teams would be hooped

Well he did completely waste my time and made me completely change my plans. I'll leave out the details but I would've likely never talked trade with him if he hadn't forwarded the nice gesture. :P

EDIT: the cap is going down even more? pls no :frantic:

Its just basic math that 30 teams can't spend to 70.2 million, and use the same payments when it drops to 64 million, something needs to change. It may not be changes in top player salaries, or ELC's but the "middle class" NHL'er would see changes.

I wished we would have given Ari's method a full try, and then people wouldn't complain about a shallow FA pool..

Would probably be better if you also stated what you want in return because you are going to get 29 PMs asking that question.
