People should take the NFL mentality regarding free agency - not trying to build your team through free agency, but building it via trades and the draft. Free agency should be seen as adding complimentary pieces.

I know this isnt an NFL sim league, but the notion could be applied to the NHL as well.

Agreed completely. FA should mostly be for depth guys.

My initial plan to make a big free agency was intended to bring people back into the game are already so so on it. Big free agency adds some fuel into getting top notch players, New lineups and a chance to change the team. I find alot of GM's are lacking the general motivation and are here just as statues currently.

Hopefully the lack of free agency sparks some good trade talk.

Dealing with teams and players isn't an easy thing, I can feel SOB's pain so back off from the whole free agency thing and make due with what you have. Test your other skills as a GM and let it be.

For this season the cap is set on the first page

I am all for a reduction in cap over the next few seasons kinda like what Chimon said 71M this season, 68 the season after and 64 the season after that

My exact thoughts. Seems like most of the GMs complaining about a weak FA pool have already resigned their own players, contributing little to FA themselves.

And why is the cap going down? Is the goal to balence teams by lowering the cap?

That's a load and you know it. Half the people who complained are people who contributed to the problem. No one should be forced to give up their players if they are able to give fair offers that makes sense for the player just so we can have an exciting free agency, that's incredibly stupid.

People just need to build their teams through the draft and through trades.

The thing that gets my goat is the rental players like Semin re-signing, and taking a pay cut to stay.

I can't say whether offers were different during the season when Ari was agent compared to the current system as I intentionally waited till the end of the year to do any signings. However, I think that all Ari did was increase a player's scope on where they'd sign, leading to an increase in the likelihood of testing FA.

I'd also say that there were at least a few "rentals" that signed which may have angered people as it was commented many times that there was a small chance of them signing.

You considerr 7.25 x 3 with a full NMC and promised top line minutes for a player who has been under a point per game in STHS a pay cut? It's even more than he was making the previous contract. I can see what you mean, someone would have overpayed on the market. I think it is fair value for Semin though

You people are never happy about any thing. The thing that pisses me off about this league is if it doesn't go the way that a GM, they bitch and complain. Nothing is ever good enough. If I was VC and SOB, I would have already lost my mind and shut the league down because of all the god damn complainers.

It's supposed to be for fun, and all you people do is complain when stuff isn't exactly to your liking. It's pathetic.

You're right Mash we do complain a lot, but how do we fix that? Get a BoG that all GM's send their complaints to that then talk to VC and SOB?

You fix it by shutting up and enjoying a game that they put a lot of hard work into running. If a BoG would help so that the constant stupid as hell complaining is out of the thread, then yes. Have the BoG talk to all the GM's at the end of the season through PM's, get their opinion on what could be improved or changed, and then have them discuss is with VC and SOB and figure out what will work best.

Having everyone complain about what they don't like in the thread probably does nothing but piss everyone else off.

I've probably seen Dora around 237 times, so I'm sick of it. Diego at least has some catchy songs I can vibe too.

We had high hopes for Regher. Unfortunately, he could not find chemistry with anyone and made the defensive core worse. We wish him will in Anaheim.
