I'm starting to think Drouin is making MacKinnon look good in Halifax.

Subban is 2nd in OHL GAA/Save % and has played 600 more minutes than the #1. His Belleville Bulls are 2nd in the Eastern Conference despite only having 1 player in the top 100 in scoring and that #88 league ranked player in terms of points is his 17 year brother, a defenceman!

I don't really. They were big defensive mistakes but were gonna need a guy to come up big in those times and make the unreal game saving save. We're gonna screw up alot more against Russia and USA so we need a guy that is gonna play lights out. We have 2 good goalies and gotta go with the hot hand if we want gold. Kind of like Schnieder and luongo, who's ever hotter I want starting in the playoffs.

The goals may not have been his fault, but to win tournaments and championships you need that next level goaltending and so far I'm not seeing it in Malcolm. I say give binnington next game and see if he makes more of those miraculous saves.

I assume this thread is to talk about ALL WJH subjects. If this question warrants a separate thread, please move.

Watching the Germany vs. Canada game, there is a German D named Oliver Mebus who stands 6'9" and weighs 240lbs. My question: Why didn't he punish our Canadian forwards with that frame? None of our forwards paid any physical price for entering the German zone.

Thoughts?

All the German's looked like statue's whenever we had the puck in there end, they would stand still, leave guys open. That's why that #7 (Who was the only one actively involved) stood out for me, that, his size and mobility make him someone to look at for me. But notheless, that was their demise. EVerywhere else I thought they looked fine.

Don't know why people are blaming Subban, we have much bigger issue's to work on. (defense) Subban was fine.

Subban was average, made a couple big saves but he looked shaky at times, but who really cares in a 9-3 game.
But if he can't step up his game a little when we face better competition we may be in trouble. Right now it doesn't look like he's ready to steal a game for us like Binnington did in the pre-tourny.

MacKinnon would be getting the same hype as Drouin in this tourney if he played the minutes Drouin played

This. Drouin 2nd line minutes and MacKinnon 4th line minutes. Also pretty sure Drouin got some PP time.

Regardless, both are insanely talented 17 year olds.

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

Drouin looked great. He's got those quick hands like Eberle.
Strome looked better. Maybe he needed Ritchie to get him going.
Scheif looked a bit better but he needed to when he gets to play with Nuge and Huber.
4th line was decent. Rattie's best game so far.
3rd line was kinda weak but McNeill is probably still adjusting so I'll give him a pass on this game.
Rielly played a bit better.
Hamilton has been very disappointing, I hope he steps his game up soon.
I didn't think this game said much about Subban either way.

Can't wait for the next game.

Anyone know anything about Oliver Mebus? I just noticed him because of his size 6'9" 240lbs. Can he skate very well? Here's a link to ep: http://www.elitepros...hp?player=43363
Edit: I notice some sites list him at 6'7" and 6'8" which is still pretty big.

I see that Yakkiepov is beeking off about what dirty players Canadians are. It seems if the Ruskies get in a group bigger than two they start that crap. It wasn't that many years ago that crosschecking creep from Pittsburg hit Mitchell from behind. Never liked him from the time he gave Canada the finger after the Juniors cleaned their clock.

He's complaining because in the Russia vs WHL games this summer team WHL strategy was to slash Yakupov whenever they got the chance, that's why he was so ineffective. To be honest Canada probably is the dirtiest team along with the U.S. and that's not just cause we play tough hockey. Slashing guys on their way to the bench and stuff isn't tough hockey, it's just dirty.

And those comments Yakupov made sounded so ironic after Russia-Slovakia today

- Russian intentionally cross checks a Slovak in the face resulting in a one game suspension
- Another Russian low bridges a Slovak Marchand style

I think there were a couple more but I can't remember.

Just got up and started watching Germany/USA

I'm probably a few minutes behind but 20 Seconds in and it's already 1-0 USA, some fast speed shown there on the opening rush.

I know they have better skill that they show they are just statue's in there end and aren't physical at all.

For all the size they have on the blue line they don't use any of it, if they could play more aggressive and physically they would be a much better team.

CHL hockey has always been pretty tough. I agree that Canada does play tough in IIHF tourny's because it is an advantage as it intimidates Euro teams. The Russians are usually set back and then try and adjust. Cheap shots are a standard in their game. Malkin is a classic. He is also one of the first to fold unlike Ovy.

Damn, would it be sweet if we could manage to get Seth Jones. Probably a top 5 pick, i know, but he's going to be a stud. I love those big 2-way defencemen that really can skate

Disagreed. I don't think the US looked better than us, I think Germany looked worse than they did yesterday. This time rather than just their defense not skating, their forwards weren't either. It's difficult for kids of that age to play 2 games in 2 days at this high of a level.

Regardless though I'm excited for US-Can. Should be a very good and close game.

Oh. Well I should have done some research then  His hometown is in Switzerland but he has a France/American citizenship. One of my buddies told me he was Swiss and in NHL 13 it says he's Swiss (then again NHL 13 says Galchenyuk in Canadian  ) Thanks bud
