RAMBUTANS
Only Canadians have the passion for this game. If they were in control, these lockouts would not have happen or at least short. Non-Canadians are only after one thing, profit. No love for the game whatsoever.

etsen3
Yes, love of hockey is clearly a genetic thing, passed down in your DNA. There is not a single Canadian that doesn't love hockey. There is also not a single American, Swede, or Russian that loves hockey.

dorrcoq
Canadians don't like profit? Good to know, I'll remember that and tell the store owner next time I got to buy something.

L'Orange
The only problem with the NHL is Gary Bettman. This little half-cocked c0ck$u#%er is the problem. He has encouraged expansion into the Southern states, and now nearly every team besides the Kings in the south are in the red. 13 teams in total are reporting financial losses with Phoenix reporting $20,000,000 in losses. Yet the league itself paid their tab. Give me a f*c$ing break, but how is that a good business model? Fire Bettman and you will unite the league. Keep him and you untie it. See. See what I did there? TOMapleLaughs
Since the last lockout: -The Canucks under Aquilini ownership have seen profits grow from $1.3m in 2004 to $30.4m last season. -TO has seen profits balloon from $14.1m to $81m -Habs $55m to $66m -Cgy $2.3m to $11m -Edm $3.3 to $16.2m -Ottawa $5.5m loss to $14.5m gain Meanwhile, -Phoenix has gained losses from -$7.4m in 2004 to over $20m lost last season. -Nashville went from a $6mil profit to a $3.4m loss -Columbus went from a .9m profit in 2004 to a $13.5m loss last season -Florida went from -$3m to -$12m losses -Tampa went from a $8m profit to a $13m loss Canada has been subsidizing Gary's expansion into the states? And while the economy went for the crapper down there, the losses have grown not grown as substantially for teams in established markets down there. In fact their profits have grown. -NYR has seen profits from from a $3.3m loss in 2004 to $74m profit last season. -Detroit has seen profits grow from -$13m to +16m -Philly -$4m to $11m -Pittsburgh from -$.9m to +$9.1m -Boston $2.3m to $14.3m It seems that the last lockout didn't really help matters for small market teams. But the established markets have all flourished. Not sure how this current lockout helps anyone but the rich teams' owners any further.

TOMapleLaughs
I searched to find out what team owners are in the NHL executive committee: -Jeremy Jacobs (Boston) -Murray Edwards (Calgary) -Craig Leipold (Minnesota) -Ted Leonsis (Washington) -Brian Burke (TO) No representation from Gary's puppet franchises. Basically the guys who have the most experience with law and/or lockouts. And guys who are definitely on-side with helping out their own wallets at the expense of players. Note that Leipold is there, and he just signed Parise and Suter to mammoth deals. Deals that he knew he probably wouldn't have to honor. Him and Gary go way back. And of course Burke has to be there. Explains why we haven't heard much from the guy as of late. And old man Jacobs. Of course the Darth Vader of NHL ownership has to be included. The odd duck to me is Edwards. Who is he? Ted Leonsis was thrown in to be a wildcard. (Wildcard, btches! YEEEE-HAWWWW!) But he is also a hard-liner, along with the rest of them. No Rangers. No Habs. And of course no Vancouver Canucks representation in Gary's inner circle who is controlling the fate of the league. Can somebody confirm that this is indeed the inner circle? Sources are thin. c00kies
Well, if Swedes owned the league the fans would have to build it themselves. Winnipeg just got a new IKEA, so that's fresh in my mind.

Gollumpus
How many of the 30 teams are based in the US? How many teams are owned/operated by Americans? How many of the origiinal six were based in the USA? The NHL being run by Canadians boat sailed a long time ago. regards, G.
