palindrom
Lets imagine this fantasy scenario. We lose the entire 2012-2013 season to the lockout. Summer 2013 the NHL announce a new team (Hopefully Quebec) will join the NHL and there will be an expansion draft. You have the choice between protecting: 1 goalie + 5 defensemen + 9 forwards or 2 goalies + 3 defensemen + 7 fowards Who would you protect? WHL rocks
If it's like last expansion draft players with under 50 NHL games are auto exempt. Kassian and Lack do not need to be protected. MG would have traded Luongo by the time because only way expansion draft happens is if there is a new CBA signed. Assuming his return would be prospect, pick and top 9 forward. No need to protect prospect. Sedin Sedin Burrows Booth Kesler Hansen Raymond Malhotra Higgins Weise Lappy Kassian John Doe (Luongo trade) Volpatti Ebbe Bieksa Hamhuis Edler Garrison Ballard Tanev Alberts Schneider Lack Edler, Alberts,Higgins, Manny, Lappy, Raymond, Ebbett, Volpati all UFA at end of this season but I'm assuming most or all will be re-signed. UFCanuck
Just take a look at the players Minnesota and Columbus got to choose from. bossram
I'm assuming there is a certain threshold for prospects in terms of games played where they are automatically protected? Using only roster players and 1 + 5 + 9 system: Schneider Hamhuis, Bieksa, Edler, Garrison, Tanev H. Sedin, D. Sedin, Kesler, Burrows, Booth, Hansen, Higgins, Lapierre, Kassian (If he counts? Or Malhotra)
