DonLever
A group of killers, rapists, and theives is suing the federal government for neglecting their feelings of hopelessness and an inability to connect emotionally. These five inmates are suing the federal government for $50,000, saying they have nervous shock because of a negligent justice system. Among them is harvey Anders who was convcted for the 1982 sex slaying of 17 year old, Shirley Ann Johnson. The girl was raped and murdered in her mother's home, which was then set on fire. Another inmate, Ernest Meigs, sexually assaulted women at gunpoint, including his ex-girlfriend for 28 hours, raping her repeatedly. http://www.calgarysu...happy-jail-life The Federal Government tried to have the charges thrown out but the Judge, quoting Greek philosophy, stayed them for 6 months. Jägermeister
They should just be happy they're still alive. Bunch of scumbags are getting it too good IMO.
Ossi Vaananen
Surprised the judge stayed this. Inmates are concerned about their feelings now? Did they consider the feelings of the women they raped, killed, and set ablaze? The fact that they get 3 meals a day and an hour or so outside is more than enough luxury. What would they do with the 50 grand anyway if they're serving life sentences? This clearly isn't Guantanamo.

hudson bay rules
I think you left out an important bit........... they don't even have lawyers on their side yet. The judge gave them six months to lawyer up and explain “the who, what, when and where (for) relevant events leading to the complaint.”

n00bxQb
If they were convicted in some other countries, most of them would've been executed by now.
hudson bay rules
Honestly, I don't know why we don't have the death penalty for extremely violent individuals. Obviously give them the opportunity to go through an appeals process first, but why we pay substantial amounts of money to keep convicted serial killers in prison for the rest of their lives is incomprehensible. Would anyone really be upset if Pickton was put to death?
nucklehead
^ also, who's talking about serial killers?
-DLC-
Jail is a punishment and, yes, you feel hopeless and lose the ability to connect if you're being punished and subjected to it. That's the point - so that you appreciate the freedom you had and work toward staying out of trouble. At least that's how I see it. Poor babies. How about the families of those living with the torment of what they did to them? I'm pretty sure they feel the same at times, but they did nothing to deserve it. Shift-4
Makes me think they are just doing this to torment their victims and their families.

Jai604
These guys are not going to garner a lot of sympathy from anyone. Don't want to spend your life in a jail where people don't care about your feelings? Don't rape, kill, and burn people in their homes. Pretty simple, really. Honestly, I don't know why we don't have the death penalty for extremely violent individuals. Obviously give them the opportunity to go through an appeals process first, but why we pay substantial amounts of money to keep convicted serial killers in prison for the rest of their lives is incomprehensible. hockeyfan87
They aren't owed anything. Maybe the pains of imprisonment are too harsh and changes need to be made but financial compensation after the fact should not be part of the discussion. We all pay taxes to some degree and does anyone here want to consider that their tax dollars are going to address the emotional suffering of convicted criminals? When are we going to start practicing common sense as a society?
