Haha I know I am buying fake ones :P I used to go through a pair every 1-2 days at work before I changed jobs so cheap ones were useful.

Most earbuds don't fit in my canal it seems. I tried a pair of beats studio (?) and a couple others and just had crap luck so far.

Yikes! That's really expensive, especially with shipping and all. That dollar adds up.

There's a difference between earbuds and earphones.

Earbuds are the ones that lie flat outside your ears, just covering it, but doesn't go into your canal.

Earphones go into the canal.

IEMs go even deeper into the canal, which is why they are inner ear monitors. They generally provide the most sound isolation (not as much sound leakage).

No, I know people who work at Best Buy/Future Shop who can get it for me if I really wanted it.

Then please go look at other earphones AND/OR headphones - because of the variety that's there. If you like headphones, try using Shures. DJs use Shures a lot - and for good reason. They are a solid brand.

Out of the 4 apple products I've had that come with headphones, not once have they ever stopped working/malfunctioned. I dont understand why it happens to everyone else

Shrugs. Maybe you had a more decent batch?

Yours actually came with headphones (wraps around the top of the head).. or earphones? (goes into canal), or earbuds? (the ones that lie outside your ear canal)?

So, I feel like rewarding myself for quitting smoking with some earbuds. I'm generally a huge Sennheiser mark, but these Klipsch in-ears are available for like $80 and are probably just the bees knees.

I'm just looking for a headphone that gives decent bass and good sound quality for every music genre. I know a coworker who has the Monster headphones (not Dr. Dre) and he said they were pretty good

Yea you can see why I was buying cheap knockoffs for my old job. I bought a package of like 40 for $55 after shipping and got maybe 10 left since I don't use them anymore.

I didn know the difference with IEMs so I will go check them out since I will only use them for the gym from now on.

I think Sennheisers are a good brand overall, but they do make some 'bad' entry level stuff. I think the Klipsch earphones at that price are a good choice though. I haven't heard them personally but do try to listen to them if you can. I think Klipsch sound signature tends to be on the bassy side though, which is good if you like some bass-oriented music.

Not sure if they're the bee's knees (cool term though!) because Klipsch does make some really expensive earphones (check out the X10i for example!), though price doesn't necessarily define quality. It's worth checking out though ;)

Are you planning on using them with a phone? (I see the mic buttons)

Yea, you're gonna have a really hard time to start if you're looking for that. That defines practically every single headphone company. You'll definitely need to narrow down because that search parameter is way too big.

What's a budget that you have in mind for them? There are some really great headphones out there if you look at websites like Head-fi or other sites like that and you don't necessarily need to give an arm and a leg.

Again, look stuff up - read what people say. Don't easily settle for a brand, especially if it's Dr. Dre Beats.

Anything less than $150 would be a good price for me. I'll just keep looking.. I do like a couple I saw on Best Buy though.

i listen to hip hop, electro, a little classic rock, and a little dubstep and I can tell you now that you're just going to be complaining about your beats that you're going to buy.
For starters, they get uncomfortable to wear after about 30 minutes. Find something with a little more padding (such as the XB700's i posted earlier, perhaps).
Just by looking at specs, the beats aren't very good. The frequency ratio is pretty narrow in comparison to other headphones at that price, and the bass power isn't actually very well either (the XB700's pack a wider hertz and ohms ratio as well).
Also, you said that "somebody else has Monster headphones": as posted above, Monster doesn't manufacture beats anymore; you won't find their name on the box, or headphones of the new ones. As far as I've heard, they're just as bad as the old ones.

You can go ahead and waste your money any way you please, however I can tell you that you're going to be dissatisfied with Beats in 3 weeks, one week past the return date, and they'll be up on craigslist.
For those wondering, I have tried Beats Solos(on ear feels terrible), Studios (not enough padding, feels like its pressing against your head and gives you a headache), Pros (waaaaaaaay too heavy, and worse than the studios in my opinion), and tours (break in a week. Not worth your money.), so I have quite a bit of experience and knowledge of the brand.

You want a low to high ratio.
For instance, Beats studios have a 20:20000 ratio I believe, in comparison to 3:28000 hertz. You're going to get a more clear, more crisp sound with a better frequency response.

Basically, however, I would give the top answer to the other answer. But that basically describes it to you, I was just using frequency as one of the examples. If you see a set of headphones you like, just copy and paste the title and add reviews to the end on google, and you will get people who have had them and what they think of the sound, durability, etc.

hmmm I know this is wayyy over my budget but I might save up a couple of pay checks for these babies.. Seems like they're better than the Beats and they look much more nicer than any other headphones I've seen. Cuz I'm looking for headphones that have a sleek design too if I can find any..

To be honest, most headphones are a lot better than Beats. It sucks that people are using Beats as some sort of premium standard. I understand that Beats is the most convenient thought to mind when it comes to earphones/headphones but still, it is frustrating because people pay their hard-earned money and get disllusioned when they realize they paid so much money for what is essentially a scam.

Some great replies in this thread.

Again, it is best to go to a headphones store and listen to them before you buy. Audio-Technica is a really good brand and might be worth checking out.

And no, Best Buy doesn't count as a headphones store.

Try out a pair of these:

http://www.ultrasone...ts/hfi-580.html

Posted Image

http://www.goodcans....dCanReview.html

HFI-580: OK, here's where we're excited! You see, many of the spendier offerings from Sennheiser and AKG didn't impress us as being much, if any, better than the HD280Pro? But right off the bat, the Ultrasone HFI-580 is catching our ear. Better detail than the Senn in the mids and highs. Fuller sound. And even a fuller bass that doesn't take away from the detail of the mid's and highs! The headphone looks nice. Seems well built. Is easily driven, (maybe our favorite headphone directly from our Classic iPod for certain types of upbeat music?). Yes, at about the $190 price point, we can easily say we have not been quite as impressed with any other Closed Cans we've tried from other manufacturers as we are the Ultrasone HFI-580! Interesting note, the 580 has a 50mm driver, as compared to 40mm found on most other models. Perhaps this could account for the increased bass?

Thanks! You're too kind! I am not quite a collector yet but one day, who knows?

That's awesome. Your current collection is wicked! What do you typically listen from? (What audio source?)

I've heard that aftermarket cables make a difference in sound - is it actually true? So, the stock cables actually limit the earphones? I haven't tried them before.

My current audio rig is my Macbook connected to an external DAC which feeds into a solid-state amplifier with a dedicated power source. The sennheisers are a bit more power hungry with their higher impedence so a bit more juice is required to drive them. Regarding aftermarket cables, its a pretty opinionated topic. Some people claim it's 'snake-oil' and any changes are entirely placebic, while some people swear by them. I've gone through an assortment on different headphones - some which have been pretty pricey and the vast majority I couldn't discern any real difference in sound quality. Biggest changes came from cable swaps on my JH-Audio's which I purchased from Moon Audio. Yet again, it wasn't really justifiable for the price so I'm back to the stock ones!

I wouldn't really bother with cables at all to be honest. Biggest thing is having a good source and ensuring music is at a high bitrate.

I would take this statement with a grain of salt. For the record, I haven't heard that particular earphone but obviously you must have. In that case, let's ask a few questions:

What standard are you using to determine it is the best under $200 dollars? Which earphones have you listened to to compare it with? What is the sound signature on the earphone? How does the earphones handle the specific nuances of music?

My wife just recently bought me the Sennheiser http://www.trustedre...dphones_review] IE60 headphones (they were half off) and they sound pretty good. Would never pay the $250-$300 for them. The IE80s are supposedly really good but again, are about $450-$500.

Also if you guys listen to music on your ipods/iphones check out the Capriccio app, there is a free version or paid but both are basically the same (ads on the free version). It's a great app and reads all formats of music, including FLAC which is the reason I downloaded it. You have to add FLAC files differently than you do regular music with itunes though, research or I can help you out.

Yeah, that was a goof, I meant to post the S4i IIs, which are also on sale. I've soured on the endeavor though. I figure boxing day is just around the corner, and it'll be a good chance to catch a few pair on blowouts.

Boxing day sales are a sham. You can get as good or even better deals throughout the year. Most places also have a price guarantee that if it goes lower in say 30 days, you get refunded the difference.

Looking for good quality over the ear headphones. I don't care much for bass/ DJ headphones more just looking for good quality music listening.. If that makes sense haha. Any recommendations? I've heard good things about dr Dre but I'd buy them off Craigslist since they are way too expensive in stores

To err is human - but to really screw up you need a computer.

Always listen to experts. They'll tell you what can't be done and why. Then do it.

Ya I've read what's been said about the dr Dre headphones. I'm looking more for comfort (want to be able to wear them lying down as well as for a while at a time) as well as good sound quality and style. For those who have the dr Dre ones, are they comfortable?
