5 Reasons to Wait for the Samsung Galaxy S4

Adam Mills — 12/07/2012

  • 50 EmailShare
Six months ago, the Samsung Galaxy S3 took the smartphone world by storm and since then, the flagship smartphone has gone on to sell more than 30 million units worldwide. The Galaxy S3′s success hasn’t managed to slow down rumors of a successor though with theSamsung Galaxy S4 rumor mill already on fire. And even though it remains a rumor, there are definitely some reasons why users may want to pass on Samsung’s current flagship and opt to wait for the Samsung Galaxy S4 release date.
Read: Samsung Galaxy S4 Release Date, Specs, News and Rumors.
We haven’t even hit CES 2013 yet and already rumors of the Samsung Galaxy S4, its features and its release date are swirling around. For owners of the Galaxy S2 who will be coming off-contract next year, the prospect of a new Galaxy S4 is exciting. For owners of the Galaxy S3, discouraging or tempting. And for those looking for a new smartphone, it’s a phone that might be worth waiting for.

While the Galaxy S3 is great, for many, the upcoming Galaxy S4 will be worth waiting for.

The Galaxy S3 was one of the most impressive devices of 2012 and Samsung will likely try to outdo itself with the Samsung Galaxy S4 in 2013. That alone is a reason to think about waiting for the Samsung Galaxy S4. For those that are looking for a smartphone, there are several more reasons why you may want to consider waiting for next year’s Galaxy S4. Some obvious, others, a little more subtle.
That being said, here are five reasons to wait for the Samsung Galaxy S4.
What’s Five Months?

One of the biggest items that prospective owners have to weigh when looking for a new smartphone is whether a phone is going to be worth signing up for a new contract. Most buyers are going to opt for the subsidized pricing of a smartphone and that means locking into a two-year agreement with the carrier, signing up for a data plan and keeping a phone for the many months to come.
Read: Samsung Galaxy S4 Launch Date Now Pegged for April.
Yes, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is a fantastic phone. One of the best of 2012 actually. However, it’s now six months old, ancient in the world of Android. But that’s the beauty of Android. You only have to wait a few months before something else emerges that blows the other technology out of the water. Case in the point, the Galaxy S4, which is slated to be coming out as early as April.
With the upgrades that it’s supposed to have – a 1808p display, Android 5.0, quad-core processor, and given that it’s Samsung, a whole lot more – waiting a few extra months to snag the latest on a two year contract is a move worth considering.
Fantastic Display

The Droid DNA’s 1080p display with 440 pixels-per-inch is just the tip of the iceberg. Samsung will almost assuredly be putting a similar display on the Galaxy S4 with rumors pointing to a Galaxy S4 display unveiling at CES 2013. The display is said to be 4.99-inches in size, of AMOLED quality, and featuring 1080p resolution and 441 pixels-per-inch. If true, not only will it offer gorgeous text and beautiful video, it will blow away the screen on the Galaxy S3 and really, any phone not called Droid DNA.

Posted Image
The Galaxy S4 will likely feature some of the best display technology of 2013.

What’s more, the Galaxy S4 is said to be unbreakable. Like, take a hammer and attempt to smash it without success unbreakable. The technology can be seen in the video below.

There was also a rumor that Apple might sue Samsung again for being too innovative.

So, they're gonna release the S4 just a bit earlier than the 5S.

It's tough to dive in and get a new phone when it'll be "outdated" within a year or two.

Android 5.0 benchmark suggests Sony Nexus handset exists

New OS on the cards

Related stories

Android 5.0 has popped up on a benchmarking website, apparently running on a Sony-made smartphone.

Dubbed Key Lime Pie, the next iteration of Android is expected to be a big one, taking a significant leap forward from Jelly Bean and Google will want a shiny new handset to show off its latest platform.

Now a benchmark result has appeared on the Nenamark site, claiming to show stats from a Sony LT30i – a relation to the Sony Xperia T – running Android 5.0.0.

In the running

In the run up to the launch of the LG-made Google Nexus 4 announcement, there were rumours that the search giant was in talks with various manufacturers and Sony was one of the names bandied about as a possible provider of the next Nexus smartphone.

So the suggestion that Sony could be trialing a new version of the Android mobile OS isn't that far-fetched - but these results are by no means a sure thing.

Benchmark results should always be taken with a heavy dosage of salt, so we aren't getting carried away over here at TechRadar. The Key Lime Pie is not necessarily about to come out of the oven.

You don't have to always buy the latest and greatest. My friend still has the Nexus one with gingerbread and it is still functional and works perfectly.

My brother has the S3 and is quite happy with it. He used to be an iPhone user but S3 changed his mind.

No need to buy cases if S4 is a truly unbreakable phone. With unbreakable screen and implement of tough polycarbonate body, it could make it a really indestructible phone.

I was a little disappointed with the specs of the S3, which is not to say that it's a fantastic phone. I have a feeling that Samsung set the bar a little lower with this one, wait out the release on the iPhone 5, and the S4 is going to blow it out of the water, much like the S2 did with the iPhone 4.

Nice publicity stunt, keep the people wanting..you'd think the 'new' technology wasn't discovered before and couldn't be applied on the S3?..it's how they make money and keep things goin'..

S3 is already blowing the iPhone 5 out of the water. S4 will probably blow it out of the planet.

iPhone 5 was not a great phone at all, I got the 4s and still on the old OS since the jailbreak lets me have alot of the features I like anyways.

I don't like that the S4 is almost 5", thats just too big I think, hope they make a miniature model.

It's funny how you guys think the s3 is destroying the ip5. Maybe it is, but you guys are in a for a huge surprise...

I think you fall into this category.....

(read last sentence) apple does not count selling phones to suppliers as sold phones. They count to customers hands as sold phones.

lol android fanboy..... so funny...

when you said, they are blowing them out of the water I just wanted to kindly educate you on the iphone 5's popularity, and make sure you don't provide misleading information for the consumers in here.

While were are on this topic.....

my boss recently udpated his S3 to the latest jelly bean. This is the message he got.

(features not available)

IN regards to your Key Lime pie, what fixes will it fix? Lets hope it fixes these problems.

http://www.androidpo...newest-release/

If it makes you happier I know more s3 users and note 2 users then ip5 users, much more. *shrugs*
Or maybe your intentions were to slam the iphone 5. As the guy in the video said. Maybe your insecure??? Have to attack something??

Anyways lets talk about the s4, apparently it's going to have 1080 hd screen, and samsung plans to put in a unbreakable screen. (thank god, so many complaints of broken screens from the s3). even though the s3 was suppose to be water proof. Also heard the s4 might be announced as early as February, with recent news of apples developement of another smart phone, (probably the ip5s)

But the s4 has some serious competition coming up. Sony plans to release their flag ship phone that will compete against apples ip5 and the s3, or the s4. Huawei recently announced a 6.1 phabet. Nokia also announced this... if they are still around by then....

http://www.intomobil...ng-spring-2013/

on top of that, apple and foxconn have been talking about producing budget phones, to compete in the lower budget market.

Going to be an interested 2 years.

Can't speak for Jovocop, but I use my Note for work. I get a lot of calls and need to add appointments to the calendar constantly throughout the day, the size is perfect to view the week, do email comfortably, etc. It's practically my office on the go. Besides, I have fairly large hands so it works there, too.

Samsung and Google are bringing all the real innovation right now. There isn't anything exciting coming from Apple. It's always just the same old thing with a couple minor tweaks.

I like getting excited about NEW features and NEW technology. The hardware is just a given now; a device is doomed if it doesn't have the leading hardware standard. There wasn't anything particularly wrong with the iPhone 5 hardware, it just has antiquated software. It just seems like Apple has lost the edge. When I first had an iPhone it was cutting edge, now Google and Windows (pretty excited for the Windows 8 line of phones) have taken over in the mobile space.

I first thought it was big too. Was planning to get the s3. But it's way easier to surf online and watch videos on the note, rather than putting ur face close to the phone to see on most smartphone. I don't talk much on phone so don't really bother me that much with the size.

Am sure it will be the same static menu and the same iOS that everyone is familiar with since the first iPhone. The only thing that might change on the iPhone 10 compared to iPhone 5 would be the placement of the earphone and increase in speed and camera resolution. By that time, Samsung Galaxy S7 might have hologram capabilities, WIDI, NFC 4.0, waterproof and unbreakable screens/phones, interchangeable camera lenses, 1440P 700PPI resolution screen and LTE 2.0

But the White color looks cool. Black color is boring as hell and 90% of phone users probably have black color phones.
