Adam Mills — 12/07/2012

Six months ago, the Samsung Galaxy S3 took the smartphone world by storm and since then, the flagship smartphone has gone on to sell more than 30 million units worldwide. The Galaxy S3′s success hasn’t managed to slow down rumors of a successor though with theSamsung Galaxy S4 rumor mill already on fire. And even though it remains a rumor, there are definitely some reasons why users may want to pass on Samsung’s current flagship and opt to wait for the Samsung Galaxy S4 release date.

We haven’t even hit CES 2013 yet and already rumors of the Samsung Galaxy S4, its features and its release date are swirling around. For owners of the Galaxy S2 who will be coming off-contract next year, the prospect of a new Galaxy S4 is exciting. For owners of the Galaxy S3, discouraging or tempting. And for those looking for a new smartphone, it’s a phone that might be worth waiting for.

While the Galaxy S3 is great, for many, the upcoming Galaxy S4 will be worth waiting for.

The Galaxy S3 was one of the most impressive devices of 2012 and Samsung will likely try to outdo itself with the Samsung Galaxy S4 in 2013. That alone is a reason to think about waiting for the Samsung Galaxy S4. For those that are looking for a smartphone, there are several more reasons why you may want to consider waiting for next year’s Galaxy S4. Some obvious, others, a little more subtle.

That being said, here are five reasons to wait for the Samsung Galaxy S4.

What’s Five Months?

One of the biggest items that prospective owners have to weigh when looking for a new smartphone is whether a phone is going to be worth signing up for a new contract. Most buyers are going to opt for the subsidized pricing of a smartphone and that means locking into a two-year agreement with the carrier, signing up for a data plan and keeping a phone for the many months to come.

Yes, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is a fantastic phone. One of the best of 2012 actually. However, it’s now six months old, ancient in the world of Android. But that’s the beauty of Android. You only have to wait a few months before something else emerges that blows the other technology out of the water. Case in the point, the Galaxy S4, which is slated to be coming out as early as April.

With the upgrades that it’s supposed to have – a 1808p display, Android 5.0, quad-core processor, and given that it’s Samsung, a whole lot more – waiting a few extra months to snag the latest on a two year contract is a move worth considering.

Fantastic Display

The Droid DNA’s 1080p display with 440 pixels-per-inch is just the tip of the iceberg. Samsung will almost assuredly be putting a similar display on the Galaxy S4 with rumors pointing to a Galaxy S4 display unveiling at CES 2013. The display is said to be 4.99-inches in size, of AMOLED quality, and featuring 1080p resolution and 441 pixels-per-inch. If true, not only will it offer gorgeous text and beautiful video, it will blow away the screen on the Galaxy S3 and really, any phone not called Droid DNA.

The Galaxy S4 will likely feature some of the best display technology of 2013.

What’s more, the Galaxy S4 is said to be unbreakable. Like, take a hammer and attempt to smash it without success unbreakable. The technology can be seen in the video below.

There was also a rumor that Apple might sue Samsung again for being too innovative.

I can't wait for android 5.0 Key Lime Pie (hmmmm...) rumored to be released on May of 2013. I want to know what Android 5.0 improvements will be.

So, they're gonna release the S4 just a bit earlier than the 5S.

It's tough to dive in and get a new phone when it'll be "outdated" within a year or two.

Android 5.0 benchmark suggests Sony Nexus handset exists

New OS on the cards

By John McCann November 20th 1 COMMENT

Android 5.0 has popped up on a benchmarking website, apparently running on a Sony-made smartphone.

Dubbed Key Lime Pie, the next iteration of Android is expected to be a big one, taking a significant leap forward from Jelly Bean and Google will want a shiny new handset to show off its latest platform.

Now a benchmark result has appeared on the Nenamark site, claiming to show stats from a Sony LT30i – a relation to the Sony Xperia T – running Android 5.0.0.

In the running

In the run up to the launch of the LG-made Google Nexus 4 announcement, there were rumours that the search giant was in talks with various manufacturers and Sony was one of the names bandied about as a possible provider of the next Nexus smartphone.

So the suggestion that Sony could be trialing a new version of the Android mobile OS isn't that far-fetched - but these results are by no means a sure thing.

Benchmark results should always be taken with a heavy dosage of salt, so we aren't getting carried away over here at TechRadar. The Key Lime Pie is not necessarily about to come out of the oven.

Someone will rip me apart, but I personally think (MY OPINION) that Samsung makes horrible phones. Bad experience with them, and I know many people who hate the S3/S2

My brother has the S3 and is quite happy with it. He used to be an iPhone user but S3 changed his mind.

I was a little disappointed with the specs of the S3, which is not to say that it's a fantastic phone. I have a feeling that Samsung set the bar a little lower with this one, wait out the release on the iPhone 5, and the S4 is going to blow it out of the water, much like the S2 did with the iPhone 4.

Nice publicity stunt, keep the people wanting..you'd think the 'new' technology wasn't discovered before and couldn't be applied on the S3?..it's how they make money and keep things goin'..

S3 is already blowing the iPhone 5 out of the water. S4 will probably blow it out of the planet.
