Sarcastic? not at all. China has spent billions upon billion of $$$ to build schools, hospitals, highways, hydro electric dams, railways, all over Africa. 10's of Billion $$ committed to building more infrastructure. African ppl love China. The average person living on the Continent has benefited greatly from China's investments and modernization of Africa.

Tibet is a part of China, hostile countries have attempted to cause discourse there. Tibet is no small place, its almost 1/3 of China.

They've spent enormous amount of treasure to modernize the region, $4 + Billion on train from Beijing to Lhasa alone. They've spent 10's of billions on infrastructure and are in the process of spending $15 Billion on clean energy projects in TAR.

side note, Can't wait to do the Beijing to Lhasa train trip, I've visited Dharamsala, next on the list is Potala Palace.

They, or us? We're getting useless dollar-store-quality trinkets already from China. Anyone want to tell me how much lead is in baby powder, or how much radiation in your Christmas toys?

It's a joke how we so openly allow Chinese goods into our homes out of economics (it's cheaper), but anything more and WHOA it's Chairman Harper at work. We as Canadians have much better leverage in establishing trade with China than our southern neighbours, and I would like to see this work out.

In Cambodia, the Chinese gov't openly supported the Khmer Rouge which was responsible for one of the largest genecides in human history.More recently, the Chinese gov't voted down UN sanctions and provided arms to Burma's oppresive gov't who as part of a military dicatorship are responsible for arresting opposition MP's including the democratically ellected leader, murdering protesters, journalists and monks, and shuting down the freedom of the press. In other news, the Chinese gov't also sentenanced a high school teacher to one year of 're-education' for warming the public the school construction in his area was corrupt and not sismetically safe. Over 7,000 schoolrooms collapsed in the course of the Sichuan earthquake killing at least 5,000 and injuring 15,000 more.

Pretty sure they said the same thing about the French and British in Africa back in the 1800's, how did that work out for Africa again? China backed Robert Mugabe. To date China's investment in Africa is largely due to the resources they have been extracting out of oil rich countries like Sudan, in which Western nations were backing out of due to civil war, the use of child soldiers and charges of both persecution and use of slavery against the people of the south.Meanwhile, China has successfully prevented the UN Security Council from serious sanctions or other preventive measures in face of the alleged genocide and crimes against humanity perpetrated in the Darfur region of that country.http://www.cfr.org/china/chinas-rising-role-africa/p8436Yeah sounds like they've been really helpful to the people of Africa.Oh and ask the people of Tibet next time your there what they would rather have a fancy new train or reglious freedom?

Canadians have become so foolish. They try and sell everything off for the quick buck and lose it all in the long run. Selling off renewable resources is the same as giving away the golden goose because you can make a quick buck off of it. If anyone thinks this is good business sense they are foolish. This is only good till you realize you gave it away for pittance.

This coming Monday is the last chance to stop the Canada - China FIPA agreement from going through.

- From Elizabeth May, MP, Leader of the Green Party.

On September 9th, Prime Minister Stephen Harper signed an agreement with China, the Canada-China Foreign Investment Protection and Promotion Agreement (FIPA). The agreement was kept from the Canadian public and Parliament until September 26th, when it was quietly made public, tabled in the House of Commons. No press release. No technical briefing.

Given his extreme attempt at secrecy, it is possible that the the Prime Minister could have succeeded in quietly passing this dangerous treaty into force without the public knowing had Elizabeth May not been waiting and watching for the treaty to surface.

This treaty would give China the unacceptable power to secretly challenge Canadian laws that infringe on its business interests, and Prime Minister Harper planned to ratify it without any public consultation, meaningful debate, or vote in the House.

Although he could have ratified the Agreement months ago, huge public opposition from Canadians of all political stripes and walks of life has caused many Members of Parliament, including many Conservatives of good conscience, to reconsider the wisdom of turning over this much power to a foreign government. We suspect that it is precisely this massive public outcry that has succeeded in forcing Prime Minister Harper to reconsider ratifying this treaty for the time being.

Thankfully, Members of Parliament will finally have an opportunity to vote on this secretive and dangerous Agreement, and we need your help to make sure that all MPs stand with the majority of Canadians who do not want this treaty ratified.

On Monday, there will be a vote on an NDP motion to demand that Canada not ratify the Canada-China FIPA. We strongly support this motion and believe that it represents the will of Canadians.

Currently, both the Conservatives and Liberals have promised to vote against the NDP motion. However, the Liberals have proposed a compromise motion, which we also support and which we believe could represent a starting point for real dialogue and consultation on the Canada-China FIPA across party lines.

Please take a few minutes of your time to call or write to your your NDP and Liberal Members of Parliament ask them to reach a compromise to prevent the ratification of the Canada-China FIPA without ANY public consultation.

Most importantly, please call or write to your Conservative Members of Parliament and ask that they stand up for Canada and vote to prevent Prime Minister Harper from ratifying this Agreement behind our backs. We only have a few days left.

First time in the history of North America, we have a generation less well off, and less educated then their parents generation.

I think the mistakes being made on this continent will punish many generations to come. We should start treating this country and its assets like our common birth right. To be protected and no squandered.

Speaking out against our immigration policies or our trade relations is looked down upon because people will yell racism left right and center.

Our politics already caters to the immigrant vote, we have gone past the point of no return.

China will rape us, we do not have the faculties to compete against their think tank.

This continent is doomed, there will be no awakening.
