This is gonna sound weird, but I think I'd go with Lu. I think he'd make a great GM, his heart is in the right place and he wants to win more than anybody. He knows who the good players are and has a way with people, who says he can't make a great GM?! ;)

"It's an opportunity, we don't look at it as a last chance... We look at it as an opportunity to do something great. We are going to take it period by period, shift by shift. You just have to be better than the guy across from you... Every guy in this locker room I can say believes we can do this." - Ryan Kesler

I'd re-sign MG to a 10 year extension.

One of the best player agents before he became GM, knows both sided of the business inside out, GM of the year. Team has been great since his arrival with division titles, 2 straight Presidents Trophies, game 7 SCF on and on and on.

+1.

I'm surprised no one has said Smyl, he does still work within the administration after all.

Smyl is part of the scouting dept that is just failing on so may levels right now. Stupid draft pick after stupid draft pick and bad advice on trades aswell. If it were up to me, I would be trying to hire scouts with proven track records to replace the bone heads the canucks have employed.

What I don't understand is why Gillis didnt replace some of these tools when he was hired in the first place.

Trevor Linden for all time Canucks, off of this team either Bieksa or Schneider. Or whichever Canuck retires and gets a law degree.

Despite Luongo not being able to get it done as a player, I would not be suprised if he became a sucessful GM in the NHL. I think Luongo would make a great GM and I would be more than happy to see him as the GM of our Vancouver Canucks.

I also think Bieksa would make a good GM. Educated, well-spoken, good leadership, likeable, good with the media. Ideally his aggressive play on the ice would also show in the way he makes deals.

What do you mean "not being able to get it done"? Hasn't he been nominated for the Vezina like three times, been the starter of the Olympic winning team and been a Hart nominee?

Sorry, poor choice of words. What I meant by "not being able to get it done" is that he has yet to win a Stanley Cup. Luongo has so far been unable to consistently perform well in the playoffs. I believe that Luongo could be successful in the playoffs as a GM, rather than a player. I am aware of Roberto's acheivements, but I am also aware of what he hasn't achieved, and believe that he can achieve those things while playing a different role.

Out of the current nucks I would say Hamhuis. I like the idea of a local guy in charge, he may be more inclined to draft/sign BC boys. Its cool to have a team drawing from their own well, a sense of home pride.

I'd pick Bieksa, nice guy who does a ton for the community. He'd be a good GM.

I have to agree with this. Juice also has an even temper and is good with the media, which I believe is important for a GM these days.

One other thing that no-one has mentioned is that he has a degree in finance, which would be a plus.

Orland Kurtenbach and Dennis Kearns had just been torched 8-1 by the Habs, but they still took time to come out to meet us, some fellow BC boys who were playing hockey in Montreal. THAT"S what being a Canuck is!

Probably Cory Schneider. He's already got a degree, involved in law/business, player rep for the union and seems like a generally knowledgeable smart, level-headed guy.

Bieksa; GM for Yuk Yuk's downtown which never seems to be open. Can always take the stage if he can't find talent.

I can see the spoof's on "Off The Record..." or doing versions of "Wayne's World" in a lumberjack jacket. B)

In seriousness; G Courtnall. Amongst other contributions he introduced Aquillini to Mike Gillis. He already has success in various ventures, knows how to run them, maintain relationships, negotiate and has credibility in both business and hockey circles not to mention our Vancouver market.
