Our best defensive forward was playing on one leg, our best defensive D man was knocked out hip checking Lucic. A lot of people were playing hurt, Samuelsson and Raymond were also knocked off our 2knd line but the Kesler / Hamhuis injuries were most influential. The Sedin's were forced into taking defensive draws against lines like Krecji instead of their normal offensive roles. We were running around because all the match ups as we would draw them were upside down. At those moments you need a star to step up; call them moments of truth to pull the team out of the fire. At that time Lou was drawing $10 mill a year in salary, highest in the entire league. I think its fair to expect more out of him than Edler or Raffi Torres. The Twins are sublimely talented, but average athletes by NHL standards. With secondary match ups breaking down all over the ice, the bigger, badder Bruins nullified them. It was not going to be the Twins or the injured Kesler. Who else other than Lou would you expect to stay composed, put the team on his back and deliver ONE more win? And make no mistake he did not. Lou amongst others was poor in game 7 and horrible in all the games in bean town. When we needed him most, he was whining that Thomas did not pump his tires. MVP of the series for us my butt! The guy is the goaltender for goodness sake, is he supposed to score the points as well? We persisted in going down the middle all series and playing right into Chara and Thoams's hands. At least try to keep the losses semi-respectable. Luongo also "gave us" a 3 game lead against Chicago that year, did the team have all the issues you referenced above then? Bodee Posted December 28, 2012 Share Posted December 28, 2012 We outshot Boston in game 3, and HEAVILY in game 7. But Thomas only let in one goal, while Luongo let in 12... The thing is, it doesn't matter how good a goalie plays in 3/7 games, if he doesn't even give you a chance to win the 4th. Lu's stats in the four losses were a 6.30 GAA and .791 save%. That is ridiculously bad. The team was completely out of those games before the 2nd period was over. In game 6, they were done by 8:35 of the 1st. We can talk about two-game leads, and Lu's dominance in games 1, 2, and 5...but when it comes down to it, he gave the team pretty much zero chance to win the 4th game, and the series with it. Maybe if we weren't so beat up, and if Thomas wasn't so unreal, we could have won a 4th in spite of him. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Edler was slashed by a Bruin so hard he had two of his fingers broken. No call. We all know what happened to Rome and that joke of a call. Hamhuis was out. Ehrhoff was playing with an injured shoulder sustained in the round 2 or 3-nobody specified when or where. Canucks D was taken out and D wins championships. How they did what they did with the d men they had is beyond me. I like the move for Garrison because he has size and skill.If the Canucks are ever to get back near a final appearance they will need more Garrisons and fewer Raymonds and Tanevs. Guys like Thomas,Boychuk,Chara and Marchand need their faces slapped silly on a regular basis. Actually,they need to be chopped down and that is where the GM needs to get his act together and drop the Raymonds and Tanevs.Grit.All you can get. Just be glad you have a stanley cup final to talk about coz chances are we ain't going back anytime soon. all the teams that were around or below us are getting better. and we are just getting older and older. But he didn't and we do, get it? This is not just about the Boston series, it's about years of playoff meltdowns. It's a team game and Lu has improved this team, not ruined it. Arrogant personality? I see Lu as a guy with a sense of humour and as a fairly good sport...most arrogant people are above that. Don't confuse the fact that he was the spokesman for a time (due to having a C pinned on his chest) with arrogance - he wears his heart on his sleeve but that's more honesty than arrogance. lowest common denominator Posted December 29, 2012 Share Posted December 29, 2012 The team in front is equally to blame but Luongo pumped his own tires and is supposedly an "elite" goaltender. Elite players step it up when the going gets tough, they don't fold and come completely unhinged, as Luongo has done too many times to count. I don't think Lu is arrogant but he definitely has a massive ego. Why else would he take the "C"? If you are a leader, you lead regardless of the accolades, you do it because that is what you do. Luongo taking the "C" was just a way for himself to pump his own tires some more. What did it lead to? Massive distraction, detrimental to the team and to Luongos game. The only thing Luongo should be worried about is keeping the puck out, that's it. He doesn't need to be chasing the ref around the ice and crusading for his teammates, he's the goalie. 5 years ago Luongo had huge potential, now he has proven what he is and is not capable of under pressure. Actually, if you look back all the way to the Memorial cup and WJC he was involved in, you can see his "potential" was over rated, as he has been second banana in just about every championship game or series he has played in, except for the Olympics,and he nearly blew that one too.
