Great another GM quit especially after he demanded that he get St Louis otherwise he wasn't joining. That was worth kicking JP out of St Louis for... :picard: We should be grateful that he was so flexible and willing to take over any team.

While I'm venting, I might as well continue. We should all be grateful for another GM who joined for one year blew apart the LA Kings, got nothing significant in return and quit right after (actually let me be more accurate; he disappeared, we had to fire him once we saw he re-signed no one). Their top LW is 78 overall, 35 year old Blake Comeau someone I just acquired. I guess the one good thing about St Louis, he didn't wreck it before quitting.

We have a new rule that will be in effect starting July 1 as a glitch has been found with determining how the AI decides which teams gets the player when there is a tie at the auction. This rule will only apply if a team decides to bid maximum contract or on an entry level contract.

Details to follow

There is a reason why Tampa got Doughty, why Vancouver got Hall etc.

We'll let n00b describe it as it was him that brought it to our attention

Due to an issue discovered with how EA breaks ties in the event of tie bids (outlined here - http://forum.ea.com/...st/9295679.page), this new rule will take effect for league maximum bids for both regular players (i.e. Taylor Hall, Drew Doughty) as well as league maximum entry-level contracts for 3.5-star or higher prospects (i.e. Jussi Kuhta).

New rule:
In the event that multiple teams place league maximum bids on a player during free agency, a draw using a random number generator will be used to determine the winner of the player.

In order to qualify for the draw, you must:
  • Inform mpt, publicly or privately, that you have placed a league maximum bid AND the number of years on the player prior to the sim
  • Have adequate cap space after the sim
  • Have enough roster space after the sim
After the sim, the winner of the draw will then trade a 7th round pick to the team that signed the player for the player and a 7th round pick. The trade is to take place as soon as possible.

i.e.
WSH signs PLAYER_X to a 2-year league maximum contract.
ANA wins the draw and, as such, is entitled to PLAYER_X.

To ANA:
PLAYER_X
7th Round Pick

To WSH:
7th Round Pick

We wouldn't have to have this rule if GMs offered more than two years on top free agents just so they can keep their rights.

I say scrap the 2 years rule, and bid accordingly to how many years the free agent wants. If you have to overpay for him, then so be it.

We can make a rule that you can only give an 1 year offer to players over 35 or 77 ovr players.

Besides, how are we suppose to know if other GMs gave out a max salary to a free agent?

I mean, I could bid on a player like Troy Brouwer, give him 3M per 3 yrs and WSH could do the exact samething, and I'll have no idea.

The idea would be that a GM would PM the BoG prior to the sim, telling us that they bid league maximum on a player.

This problem we're talking about only applies to league maximum contracts.

I understand the problem, but this situation would happen a lot less, if GMs offered more than 2 years to a top free agent.

Do you think GMs would give out the max salary to a player if they offer them 5 or 6 years? I doubt it, no one wants to handicap their team on one player.

If WSH and ANA both bid the same amount, WSH will get the player every time (assuming adequate salary and roster space). Not most of the time, literally EVERY time. EA uses reverse alphabetical order to break tie bids. So you would have an idea if he bid the same amount ... because he would be on WSH.

Obviously, if you outbid every other team, you'll get the player. The new rule solves a situation where outbidding another team is literally impossible because it's at the league maximum amount a team can offer a player. So, for example, Hall went to Vancouver because Washington didn't bid league maximum. Doughty went to Tampa Bay because Washington, Vancouver, and Toronto didn't bid league maximum.

It would still happen. You don't think teams who have $40-$50M in cap space would've went all in on Hall for 5 years? They'd still have another $20-$30M to spend even after signing him!

Also, for unsigned 3.5+-star rookies who are limited to maximum 3-year, 2-way contracts (currently $0.950M/year), this gives everyone a fair chance at those players rather than just the teams at the bottom of the alphabet.

How many teams in this league actually have 40M+ in cap space? I think the only time that has happened was Tor, who left all his UFAs walk. I doubt, even GMs who have 30M in cap, would pay Hall 19m for 5yrs.

Really, this rule only applies to rookies who were left unsigned.

Well, I'm not going to keep arguing. I already spent enough time on this which was clearly a waste of time as the team that is at the greatest disadvantage has the biggest problem with a new rule intended to make things more fair.

LEAGUE MAXIMUM

League maximums are:
20% of Salary Cap (currently $20.030M) for all players except unsigned rookies, which have a $0.950M maximum (x 3 years)

Not saying this isn't a great situation, and I'm impress that you found out this glitch.

It just that it would happen a lot less if GMs gave out the offers that the free agent ask for, and if that means you need to overpay to get him, then do so.
