As I watch the WJC, it dawned on me, this is exactly what the Canucks need to push them over the top. Cheerleaders help fans (especially the robotic suits at the lower levels) enliven their adrenaline. This in turn, makes us louder. Remember Bieksa complaining about the lack of passion of fans? Well, this addresses that.

Before traditionalists gives a howl, let me just stop you right there and say you never progress without change.

Let me give you 2 living examples where this works. Remember the current Stanley Cup Champs? LA Kings? They have them. See the result? Second great example, the perrenial NBA powerhouse, LA Lakers, they have the world famous Laker Girls.

We already have cheerleaders, they are hard at work on this board right now! Connaughton for NORRISSSSS!

If you need cheerleaders in hockey to spark your crowd there's something wrong.

I'm pretty sure the Seahawks have great atmosphere and their fans are loud because of it's cheerleaders...

I love looking at attractive women. But I'm there to watch a sport, not look at their pom-poms.

With VanC demographics the way they are, there would be two cheerleading squads.

Squad 1: Basically a new version of the Village People (YyyMCA!)

Squad 2: Life size Hello Kitty! dolls

When I last went to a Canucks game in the lower bowl. There was two guys behind me who showed up in the last 5 minutes of the first period. All they did was talk real estate ALL game long. When I went to a game in the upper bowl. Fans were nuts, loud, and totally into it. In fact they were taunting a poor bugger who was wearing a Kings jersey.

You really think cheerleaders will change people going to games like that with the "suits mentality" in the lower bowl?

Please don't look at cheerleaders that way. It's a decent job that puts food on the table for the kids.

The Giants have them and, honestly, no.

They get in the way more than anything...it's awkward and really doesn't work very well IMO.

You know I respect you and I think you're a fair mid but I totally disagree. It will only feel awkward at first but once we get use to it, I think it's going to work just like it did with the winning teams both in pro sorts as well as amateur. It's working very well in the NCAA.

I have an idea. How about save that dough on cheerleaders and make tickets cheaper?
How about beer cheaper or offer a game day snack +soft drink for just above cost?
I am watching KHL games and it is a no frills environment. When you love hockey, frills are a pain.

Cheerleaders seem to "americanize" the game. Theres something about it that just doesn't fit with hockey. If the organization really wanted to bring the noise and atmosphere into the building then all they have to do is lower ticket prices. Make it a viable option for the steel-toe crowd and the families to go see a game.

Actually, at 9-27-0-0 the glass would be 3/4 empty, yes? :P

I don't see them helping anything. during the game. If they were used for "eye-candy" before, in between and after games, or for those fan events (t-shirt give-aways or other such promos) during a period then I don't see there being a problem.

If they were going to be used to get the fans motivated, where would they perform? It would be awkward to have them jumping around in the aisles. Would there be platforms created for them, similar to what we have seen in some of the Spengler games (or was it during the WJC)? If so, wouldn't there have to be seats removed (ie. remove paying customers) to make room for the cheerleaders? I just don't see it happening.

On the other hand, I'd really like to have the Canucks go retro and bring back an organist with a large repertoire to play during the breaks in play. All of this canned music crap is annoying. :)

regards,
G.

I would agree with this statement wholeheartedly. Van does not have a problem filling seats. I personnally don't have a problem if they are there or not. But if anyone thinks it would improve the atmosphere or have any sort of impact to morale it won't.
