Aw...crap! :picard: I clicked a Mr. (DIS)Reputable thread.

No. We do not need a crass marketing ploy that caters to the lowest common denominator. So what if other NHL teams have them! What we need is a good damned honest effort at winning the Stanley Cup! Full 100% effort in a "winning situation". We were up 2-0 in the series in 2011. Most important lesson the Canucks need to learn is "don't taunt your opponents before you've done all the work". They handed the momentum of the game back to Boston when Lou opened his damned mouth and sniped at Timmy. When you're up two in a "team that takes 4 takes it all" you have to be f*ng stupid to hand any sort of advantage to the other team.

Hell no. Cheerleaders and hockey don't mix. We already have ice girls and that is good enough.

Please don't look at cheerleaders that way. It's a decent job that puts food on the table for the kids.

Actually professional cheerleaders generally make very little money (around $0-75 a game). It is not a full time (or even part time) job as far as finances go. They end up making FAR below minimum wage when practice hours are taken into consideration. That is why the $75 is generally considered an allowance rather then pay, and the "job" is a volunteer position for legal reasons. That does not include the $100's -$1000's in personal costs that usually mean that cheerleaders are paying to cheer. If the "Orca-Girls" or w/e were to be paid like it was a proper job then they would likely be the only professional cheerleaders who could honestly consider it a proper form of employment. Sure some women get to move on to other related professions (modelling, etc), but for most cheerleaders, it is a hobby.

Edit: I would also agree with others who say that it is gimmicky. At least Fin has a distinct personality that makes the character somewhat endearing in small doses.

If you need cheerleaders in hockey to spark your crowd there's something wrong.

I'm pretty sure the Seahawks have great atmosphere and their fans are loud because of it's cheerleaders...

I love looking at attractive women. But I'm there to watch a sport, not look at their pom-poms.

All they really need to do is spruce up the ice cleaners. Cheerleaders are often in markets that need something extra to draw fans to the seats. There is never a problem with that in Van City, full house night after night, even at these ridiculous prices!

I go to the games in Edmonton all the time and the cheerleaders are just annoying. Save them for football and some basketball. No place in hockey for them.

I tend to ignore threads that have the words "petition", "official" or "goal song", but had to check this out because you managed to work them all in there. Nice job.

Cheerleaders seem to "americanize" the game. Theres something about it that just doesn't fit with hockey. If the organization really wanted to bring the noise and atmosphere into the building then all they have to do is lower ticket prices. Make it a viable option for the steel-toe crowd and the families to go see a game.

Bingo! Cheerleaders are definitely an embarassment to hockey. Football has their thing. We have those chicks that scoop ice. Besides in football it works because of the sidelines most of the NHL teams that use cheerleaders have them in a corner or something close to that effect. Kind of pointless of you ask me.

Meh.
There's no way Vancouver would add cheerleaders.
For one thing, their whole 'family image' would change.
They market the team to a multicultural all ages audience unlike some places in the US whose market may be more male based.
More importantly the owners would never have it, since a whole section of season ticket seats would have to be sacrificed.

Wanna add something cool to hockey, throw a gopro camera into a helmet and give me more on ice coverage. More slow motion!
If you're going to take seats away, make the ice bigger. How about some consistent reffing.

Cheerleading is far more Canadian then it is European...if you wish to keep cheerleaders out of hockey you should be saying "Stupid North American idea, our hockey culture should resemble European club culture"...the most dedicated/non-flashy fans in Ice Hockey are Swedish/Finnish Fans.

We, at CDC, are experiencing the "Dark Era", where Mr. Reputable and King of ES mercilessly make terrible threads at our expense. Support group meetings to help you get through this tough time are beginning weekly this Thursday.

That's unfair. I think my opinion is sometimes, controversial but worthy of healthy discussions. Besides, I make positive threads as well. I actually am offended by your personal attack.

I get that making a post limit before someone can create a thread wouldn't work but at a certain point can't some people earn a monthly thread making limit?

Ever listened to the crowd at a Canuck's playoff game, we don't need them. It is not a hockey thing.

With VanC demographics the way they are, there would be two cheerleading squads.

Squad 1: Basically a new version of the Village People (YyyMCA!)

Squad 2: Life size Hello Kitty! dolls
