To be honest this doesn't make any sense.

Spezza is Ottawa's franchise player, and he's their next captain, plus they are building to get better now not rebuilding.

Edmonton is loaded upfront and need to focus their assets on the backend and in goal.

The idea just doesn't make much sense to me.

you're crazy if you think Edmonton's gonna let Nuge play on the 2nd line

Edler, Markstrom, Hansen, 2nd round pick 2014 to Islanders for Ryan Strome, 5th overall pick 2014

This is fairly even as well.

Not a freaking chance that Nuge plays 2nd.

Please say this is a joke. My mother knows where Spezza plays and she doesn't watch hockey.

You're also crazy if you think Spezza plays for Montreal.

Also not a chance Ottawa trades Spezza for anything less than an overpayment. This is a vast underpayment.

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

Doesn't Malkin play on the 2nd line in Pittsburgh?

Ottawa isn't trading Spezza and Oilers would want a centre a little younger anyways.

That's my point.

Good teams have two quality centres.

I think that trade is a little bit of an underpayment by Edmonton, I take it back, it's huge under payment, Spezza is going to be their new captain why would they trade him away for gagne and hemsky? Maybe if Edmonton was the Leafs and Ottawa was the Bruins and Edmonton gave them Gagne+ Hemsky+ conditional first round picks for until Spezza leaves Edmonton.

Why would the Oil want Spezza?
The guy is over-rated.
The Oil have lots of top-end talent - the last thing they need is to spend assets to get a guy like Spezza who isn't exactly the model of consistency and character - and they're not going to get him for Gagner, who is a B grade forward in Edmonton, and Hemsky, a 5 million dollar guy who put up 36 points last year, surrounded by scoring talent.

You would have to send more to Ottawa to get this deal. But honestly, the ammont of young talent in Edmonton, there only a few trades away from becoming a contender.

I am sorry but his is just insane. Hemsky is a bag of hammers and will be injured for 1/2 to 3/4 of the season. Gagner is good but nowhere near good enough to land the talent of a Spezza.

This surprises me . Spezza is one of the character guys in the NHL imho. If you browse his stats you will find consistency. He is still a dirty Senator though lol

That would be a brutal deal for Ottawa. Spezza is a franchise player, future captain, and undoubtedly worth a lot more than Hemsky and Gagner.

Not to mention that Edmonton's needs are certainly not on offence, and that Ottawa is looking to make the playoffs again.

Ottawa is not trading Spezza.

Edmonton would have to offer Hall/Eberle + RNH, which isn't going to happen.

Case closed.
What is the deal with Mike Gillis, it always seems like he's sweating...

You're probably right vanfan. I'm a little hard on Spezza. I've always kind of seen him (and Heatley) as Ottawa's version of Joe Thornton - high end skill - but just lacking something - frustrating players that didn't seem to have 'heart' or whatever you want to call it. They also struck me as floaters to be honest. But Spezza has certainly always produced points, and I think McLean revived his career last year. Sometimes it's hard to forget that he is still only 29, and I do appreciate him more as he gets older haha.
