The Kassassin Train
Schneider could be playing in his last game tonight for this European club. He has given notice to the GM. Same with Duchene who is his teammate. Spezza has already returned to NA as he believes there will be a season. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl-lockout/2013/01/02/cory_schneider_could_leave_ambri_piotta/ Interesting that they would all do this given previously there was no movement during other negotiating periods. Are they really close this time around? We'll see..approaching this movement of players and rumblings with extreme optimism

Everybody Hates Raymond
Still doubt there's a season. False hope.
Wheels22
I'd say Cory got word there was some progress made and wants to be around whenever final things are being decided.. He was getting tons of ice time, and his play wasn't bad enough to get kicked off the team

The Kassassin Train
I wonder if they bothered to say 'see ya' on the way out. It says a lot about how desperate the Euro leagues are to get players and how good things are for players in NA when they cannot wait to get back. etsen3
Few possibilities: 1) He thinks a deal is close and wants to be back to prepare for the season. 2) He thinks a deal is not close and figures there's no point staying in Europe if the season will be cancelled anyways. Rather than playing Europe so he can stay in game shape, he just wants to take some time off/train for next year. 3) Both of the above (he thinks whether they get a deal done or not, it would be better just to come home and be prepared for either possibility). 4) He's just bored/tired of playing in Europe
Mr. White
I've heard that there's multiple players returning home from Europe
oldnews
I don't buy it. I think there is cause for great concern because Schneider gave up four goals. I'm guessing the real story is that they are cutting him, and that he'll never be the same again. The Canucks should unload this guy as soon as the CBA is dealt. He can't handle the Swiss league. Bust is imminent. Stay tuned for further threads from CDC doomsdayers.

CityinFlames
Probably due to him not wanting to pay any taxes while over there, a lot of players have already returned home due to paying a high price in taxes.

DownUndaCanuck
Doesn't hurt to come home just in case the season is salvaged, get some good rest in before training camp. Worst case scenario is that the season's lost so these guys just fly straight back. On the other hand, Schneider has been playing brutally in Europe for whatever reason and is playing on a terrible team. Get him out of that situation ASAP because it can only hurt his development.
