[Discussion] Roberto Luongo Trade Thread 4.0

Recommended Posts

Posted this reply on someones Luongo proposal Topic , But I thought it could work here too. What do you guys think?

Could possibly Luongo go to Florida for their remaining RFA Dmitri Kulikov?

The Defenceman is only 22 years old, and has 13 goals and 70 points over 3 seasons (198 games).

Based on the slow resigning for him: Seems like he possibly doesn't enjoy playing in Florida, or most likely lag from the new CBA. But, He could want to join a Cup contending team like Vancouver.

* Trade only happens under the condition that he signs with team.

To Vancouver:

Kulikov rights

Pick

Theodore (Possibly)

To Florida:

Luongo

Pick

There are a couple of questions to ask...

1) Is MG willing to starting the season with both Luongo and Schneider?

------- Preferably not given the possible distractions but he could probably live with it

2) Is MG willing to start next season with both Luongo and Schneider?

------- Zero chance imo. Someone will be moved between now and summer of 2013

3) Are the leafs and panthers the only teams interested and Luongo is willing to goto?

------- I don't know

3) Do the leafs need an upgrade in goal to make the playoffs?

------- No one can say for sure.

4) is Luongo the leafs only option for an upgrade?

------- Well I don't know which goalies are available, Burke will shop around if he is indeed looking for upgrade.

5) Is it possible the leafs start the season with the goalies they have and see how they perform first

------- Yes

The Toronto Sports Network keeps reminding us time and time again who they work for.

The top video on TSN is a video of Luongo saying he would allow a trade, and that Toronto is in the mix. And the second top video is Carlyle saying that he would be happy going into the seaosn with the goalies he has...

Do they actually think they can manipulate a Luongo trade to Toronto and lower his value? We all know Toronto is desperate for a goalie. They're not making the playoffs with Reimer as their number 1. Especially in a shortened season where they're going to be playing teams like Boston, Ottawa, and Buffalo in the majority of their games.

Don't you see a problem with that? Is that really fair to Schneider? By a mile, the best goalie this organization has ever had looking over his shoulder? Do you really think Schneider signed here so the "1A/1B" merry-go-round could continue?

It's professional sports, multi billion $$ business. It's not about being fair, it's about winning. If Luongo plays better he'll get the starts. Just like Schneider got the starts in last year's playoff when Lu was sat on the bench. Was it fair to Luongo after he signed a long term contract in VAN?? No one cares about fairness, who ever plays better plays more.

Pretty much, yes! That's how it worked in New England, when Brady supplanted Bledsoe. Teams make decisions and live and die with them. I'm on your side, I think it's the wrong decision to be trading Luongo, but the decision has been made nonetheless.

The red carpet has been slid under Schneider's golden feet, like it or not, and the worst possible way to start off this marriage would be to have Roberto Luongo on the bench and with the crowd on his side.

You an NFL fan? How'd the New York Jets' season go?

When you have two #1's, you actually often have none. TSN has already started a "LuongoWatch". This is already turning into a circus and the CBA hasn't even been ratified. It will only get worse, and it will be a detriment to this team.

A more relate-able tandem in the NFL imo would be Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick. Smith being the high draft pick who is arguably still a top tier number one and Colin being the young kid who throws Smith out of a starting job. Also helps that San Fran has a good team to help (like the Canucks).
