Noheart
I also see things differently: "It's time to move on" can very well mean to the media: "Shut the F up already with your stupid questions and assumptions". Now don't forget to put as much energy in :"When pressed, he admits that Florida is appealing because it's his offseason home but emphasizes that he and Mike Gillis have only spoken generally about where he may or may not go." as you dispense on the notion of "it's time to move on" which Luongo never says: "It's time to move on from the Canucks", which appears in the article. Carefull what you read. Much interpretation in media.
G-52
NO chance Luongo gets bought out. First reason, he's a premiere goalie for another 4 or 5 years. Second he is owed too much money to be bought out. IF Lu was bought out Canucks would have his $1.5 mill buyout cap hit until 2030/31. That's a long time from now. On top of this Lu would carry a cap hit between $3.4 mill and $5.8 mill between 2018 and 2022. What would happen is Lu would remain the Canucks starting goalie for a 3 or 4 years, when his salary drops in 5 years he could be the backup or he could then be bought out. There is absolutely ZERO chance Lu gets bought out now. If he was 2/3 ($27 mill) of his remaining $40 million would need to be paid out. Canucks would be paying Luongo $1.5 mill per year for the next 18 years.

Canucks_Hockey_101
Think you are missing the whole point. It seems like it is going to be a 1 time buyout clause because if you could buyout at any time there would be no need for their to be a 1 or 2 player buyout clause. In 4-5-6-7-8-9 years after this season Lu will have a cap hit of 5.3 million and just because his salary drops the cap hit will be the same. We disagree,,With the loophole of backdiving contract(Lu's certainly is)and teams having the cap hit for the entire contract, GMMG will be the 1st to run in and buy out Lu. If the Aquilinies are as rich as they seem to be, and if they want to win, Lu has got to be bought out.
WHL rocks
While you are probably right that Lu wont get bought out, your reasoning is completely wrong.. The amnesty buyouts do not put anything against the cap. They are trying to give GM's an out for the MASSIVE mistakes they made in the last few years. WiDeN
He will be pretty desirable because of his cap hit in comparison to other top tier goalies. I think there's a market for him.

King of the ES
If his contract was 3 years or so he would have been moved already because he would have significant value, but no team will likely want that hit for 9 more seasons after this year. There is no market for a almost 34 year old goalie with that length left, especially coming off a very subpar season already.
Get real canuck fans
There is a trend with Lu in the playoffs that is very disturbing. The trend is he plays well the 1st 2 games almost without fail, and then the remainder of the series he does not do well at all. I think Lu becomes much to predictable and teams find a way to get into his head. Seeing as how last year he only played 2 games we wont count them. going backwards 2010-11 Boston Lu had a 1.50 gaa in games 1 and 2 vs Boston and was around 4.67 for games 3-7 San Jose- games 1 and 2 had a 2.50 gaa and 2.29 in games 3-5 Nashvile- games 1 and 2 had a 0,75 gaa and 2.14 in games 3-6 Chicago- games 1 and 2 had a 1.50 gaa and 2.60 in games 3-7 2009-10 Chicago- games 1 and 2 had a 2.00 gaa and 4.30 in games 3-6 L.A- games 1 and 2 had a 2.66 gaa and 3.40 in games 3-

WiDeN
This again seems like a fantasy list to me, Pietrangelo and Doughty out of the top 10 and Phaneuf at 5 make no sense. You can also tell cause Campbell is #3 and Carle is #10. These aren't top defensemen lists these are fantasy lists, no one would take Phaneuf in the top 5 and leave Pietrangelo and Doughty out of the top 5-10. Smashian Kassian
LOLZ Did you make that list up yourself or did you take it from Hockeyyinsiderrrrrrrr? There is not 2012/13 - so yeah, great list. The only way Phaneuf makes the top 10 is if there is no actual hockey to base it upon lol. Obvious question - why didn't you post your source? shazzam
how about some Luongo talk.... I think his fate still depends on the new CBA and how it affects these long term deals If we were still under the same CBA, I think he would have been traded. ........ any response? Hamhius isn't in the top 50. Kind of proves the point that he's among the most under-rated players in the NHL (except among those in the know). The more I look at it , it is perhaps as ridiculous as a list like that could be. Pietrangelo at #26, behing Bouwmeester. Great sense of humour. Waste of time. Thanks for posting. Good for some laughs.
