Fozzy
MG will not make a trade for the sake of making a trade. So what if Luongo is still here 15 games into the season. You don't think a team like ours can handle other teams with Schroeder as our 2nd line C for a handle of games ? Teams will get desperate for a very good goaltender, this team we have ( with Schroeder for a handle of games ) is still good enough to beat the majority of teams in this league. n00bxQb
I agree with your post, but in some cases I think a buyout might be a better idea with the new rules in place. It's not really flushing money down the Toilet, cause you owe them that money that is remaining on the deal anyways, so you buy him out you just pay it all right away it get rid of the guy. If he brings negative value to the organization, and doesn't bring much on the ice and has a terrible contract that you can't move and you need that space badly I think buying someone out might be the right move. higgyfan
If stats don't mean anything, why do you keep referencing them while trumpeting your love for Nazem Kadri? Why mention them at all? EDIT: and BTW, the team being "absolutely dreadful and will miss the playoffs" doesn't exactly speak glowingly for our prospects, does it? Why aren't all those elite players like Schroeder, Kassian, Connauton, etc., able to lead them to the playoffs? Must be the coach.
cdubuya
Schneider is the starter as of G3 against the Kings. Canucks made it clear who the new starting goaltender was, at that point. They made it even more clear when they signed Schneider to a $12M contract shortly thereafter. "Alternating" would be a disaster. It's Dickenson vs. Printers. Would not be good for anybody. If Schneider were to clearly outplay Luongo, Lu's value would move to buyout territory. Tyler Bozak's a good player. Plays with energy, good skater, can score, is fairly young, Western Canadian, etc. I like him. And you've gotta remember that we'd effectively be getting a supplement to our roster, as we'd be giving up our backup goalie. This group doesn't have much left, so anything to increase the odds of a Cup should be welcomed by all.

Canucks_Hockey_101
Yeah, that was kinda the whole point of oldnews's original post on this subject. The Isles can't because they can't afford to. Vancouver can. Trading DiPietro takes both the actual dollars and the cap hit off the books for NYI - and in exchange they pay 0.8 mil more per year to get a legitimate starter. Otherwise, as you rightly state, they're on the hook paying 4.5 for a goalie that's riding the pine at worst, and at best will likely never be the elite goalie he's being paid to be. This is actually a pretty smart way for the Canucks to add value to a deal without having to worry about a significant impact on their cap hit. Dogbyte
Weird things can happen. Who predicted Phoenix to be in the playoffs in 2011? They were already penciled in to get the 1st overall pick. Toronto has a new coach, and it's a shortened season. Anything is possible. I don't think they're nearly as far off as other people do. Gillis is under way more pressure to make the trade. We have a circus that will follow us around until he's gone. We have a "window" that is rapidly closing with glaring holes in our lineup. $9.3M allocated to your goaltenders is a pretty bad strategy when you have no 2nd line C. Millerdraft
You're spinning what I said. Ferraro didn't say that "he can't play in the NHL", Ferraro said that he can't be the 2nd line C on the Vancouver Canucks, today. Said that it'd be setting him up to fail. Ferraro follows the Canucks very closely. He's not just looking at Schroeder's size. Schroeder has 9 goals and 19 points in 30 games. Does that convince you that he's ready, as a rookie, to be a 2nd-line C on an alleged Cup contender? "Consistently one of the teams better players" doesn't say much. He's given a lot of ice-time, and his job first and foremost is to generate offense, which he simply hasn't done very well.
Tangelos
I'm with you on this one. Gary Valk said the same thing two nights ago on Sportsnet. "Ebbett is grittier, stronger on and with the puck, and better defensively at this point in time. Schroeder isn't NHL ready yet."
Millerdraft
OH god. If Ebbett is on the main roster then don't even bother dusting off the jersey. I don't know what people see in this guy.
elvis15
With all the Brian Burke firing news, perhaps this is good for a Luongo to Toronto deal. Nonis may not like Gillis (MG replaced him after all) but Nonis does like Luongo (since he traded to get him here in the first place). @SportsnetSpec Sounds like Burke did NOT want to make Luongo deal, while many in Leafs org did. Burke a principled man.

cripplereh
This either kills the deal of Luo to TML or makes it happen faster.I think someone saw what was in the deal and either liked it or hated it and made the call. Not only that TNL expect to win and are so far from being in the playoff's.It will take TML's least a couple years to be a playoff team , less they get a goalie and 8 players have the season of a lifetime!!! Dirt Nasty
Bozak is only 26, turning 27. He had 47 points last season and has improved in point totals every year that he's played. He's not exactly a nobody. Frattin just had his first season out of University level hockey, and didn't do that badly. Of course we'd all like to see more for Luongo, but these players could be better than you're giving them credit for. Especially on a team better than the leafs.
