You're a homer.

Theres no signs that point to Couturier not being able to be a first line center. The kid is an absolute stud in the making.
Grossman/Mezaros are a step down from Edler, but better than letting Edler walk for nothing at the end of the season.
That late first is still a first, and you never know where it will be. Last year phillys was in the early 20's.

and I will say again, that franchise goalie and franchise defenseman are a goalie we are trying to get rid of with a horrid contract and a d man who is a pending UFA.

Still dont like the deal? Add Scott Laughton. there, fixed.

Just don't see Edler wanting to leave Van with a 64 mill cap hit, why wouldn't he take the 5 mil we'd give him.

Absolutely. I literally feel happier in my everyday life, ever since the CBA news on Sunday. The Lu drama was gravy, but today's Burke news has poured glorious gasoline on the whole situation at the perfect time. I love the anxiety, and I honestly will confess that I have no clue what will happen. There's still a part of me that thinks Schneider could be shipped for a huge return.

The Burke news literally had me laughing out loud at the computer when I first read it, and had my wife looking at me all weird. I can't believe his ridiculous stubbornness over sticking with subpar goaltending has cost him his job twice.

He must think Canadians are stupid not to be able to recognize a sieve in net.

Kassian.... Taylor Pyatt 3.0

Lies. He's more of a Steve Bernier. Hopefully his talent level goes up so he can become like a Taylor Pyatt.

DId anyone else hear Nonis answer the question about Luongo by saying he wasn't allowed to comment on "pending transactions"?

It may be nothing but that seems to be a slip up as the question was in regards to any negotiations. "Pending transaction" would imply a deal is done, pending the ratification of the CBA.

Just a thought.

I thought that too. But that might be reading into it too much.

I think someone asked him if a deal for Luongo had already been completed. And he simply said that he didn`t speak about impending deals. Which is basically no comment.

Luongo, Edler & Raymond, for:

Schenn bros, Simmonds & a 1st(pending on Edler signing).

We'd be younger, a little bigger & tougher. Come after LA with some familiar weapons.

It would be a mistake to trade Edler.

You don`t replace a 50 point defenseman very easily. Which is why every team in the league would be clamouring over him.

For the amount that he`ll likely cost to re-sign, it isn`t worth it to trade him.

you're probably right. It just came across at the time as something someone would say if a deal were in place. I'll have to go listen to it again. Time will tell.

Why is everyone trying to trade Edler now?

Is he this year's Bieksa/Raymond/Ballard?

Yeah, that whole thing was based on Edler not wanting to re-sign, if he is willing to stay for 5 mill than just trade Loui

This doesn't seem to make much sense. Schenn is much better than Grossmann and shouldn't be a backup option for us. This guy's tweets seem questionable...

Deniro, appreciate what you're saying-think he's a brilliant player-but he's also had back issues, & been inconsistent over a few PO seasons. Lastly, hits hard, but not especially nasty.

Luke Schenn also has issues, & is also young. Believe he's a righty too? Might pair nicely with Garrison, who could compensate for some of Edler's offense.

We'd also have an extra couple mill in cap. Maybe 1 more deal, to get 1 more D-man...

I think it is fairly easy to replace a 50 point D man when they get PP time with the Sedins/Kesler...

Ehrhoff did it the season before and look how that turned out for Buffalo. Same thing could happen to Edler if he was traded. Alternatively, Garrison could surpass last years output if he is playing with the Sedins on the PP, and so could a young heralded D man like Schenn.

I like Edler, don't get me wrong, but I really dislike our depth at RSD, and am not completely comfortable signing Edler to a long term deal without an elite RH player.

Personally, I'm just speculating that his agent isn't willing to buy into the Canucks' internal $4.6m cap (likely $4.9m for Edler) on Dmen. If that's the case, there is precedent that Gillis won't budge financially (see Ehrhoff) so perhaps you package him up to Philly for couple of their young studs.

Heres a crazy thought. If Philly wants Luongo, Toronto still needs a goalie, and Van just wants the best return possible how about.....

Lou to Philly, Bryzgalov and Van 2nd to Toronto, Gardiner and Couturier to Vancouver.

Philly gets Lou for Couturier straight up, which they would probably do
Vancouver gets the best pieces offered from either teams (better than Gardiner+Kadri, better than Couturier +Grossman)
Which leaves Toronto.... would they give up Gardiner to take on Bryzgalov's contract? the second is compensation for that.. but this trade would still come down to them accepting it or not.

Wasn't Grossman acquired for a 2nd and a 3rd? Why exactly would we overpay for him, in essentially the same year, with Luongo? He'd be a nice piece to the trade, but not the centrepiece. We don't need any more left D anyway.

I'd like to see something MASSIVE. Like:

Van
Voracek (F)
B.Schenn (F)
Meszaros (D)
Grossman (D)

Phi:
Luongo (G)
Edler (D)

I'm wet just thinking about it.

Yea, it`s fairly easy to replace a 50 point defenseman if you wanna pay 6 or 7 million for one. Or trade away half of your farm. Ehrhoff was a rare situation where San Jose wanted to dump him to get Heatley. I wouldn`t count on that happening too often.

50 point defensemen don`t grow on trees. It`s almost impossible to get them through free agency without overpaying for them.

The fact that we can likely re-sign Edler for 5 million, means it would be silly to let him walk. Why would we wanna sacrifice depth at left side D, for depth at right side D? That really doesn't make us any deeper.

haha. Its highly unlikely, but does make sense for Philly and Vancouver... if they could both come up with minor compensation it could actually work, if Toronto really is desperate.

So essentially from the proposals I'm seeing our lineup would look something like this:

Sedin Sedin Burrows
Booth Schenn Kassian
Higgins Lapierre Hansen
Raymond Malhotra Weise

Hamhuis Bieksa
Garrison Schenn
Ballard Grossman

Schneider
Backup
